that reminds me of the college days:

what type of beer ?

free - you want anything better, bring it yourself but bring enough to share "

Perhaps everybody already knew this... but for those that don't and I did include myself in that group up until now...

You can actually change the battery in a Pentax Remote Control F yourself, just three wee screws, a button cell (CR1620, 3 V, Lithium, 70 mAh, Flat Top, 16 mm, @ £1.00 or so), just note how it comes out and which way up etc, a couple of minutes to do.

My remote range has now just gone back up from a two yards to eight yards, both outside on a dull day.

Not too shabby, my first new battery since 2008, I can't complain about that...
I have "Pentax O-RC1, Remote Control Waterproof." Do you know if this is the same device you are describing? Mine has four small Phillips screws one in each corner of the back.

OK, thanks. I don't think there are any screwdrivers small enough to use on those screws anyway. :>)

If there are no tools to fit the screws then how was is assembled?

Good point.
I also see that in the reviews there are complaints that the battery is soldered to the device. The solder can be heated with the tip of a pencil soldering iron, and a new one soldered in its place.

Easy fix.

A very nice lot of old 35mm Eos gear, which I bought on ebay 10 days ago and has taken way too long arriving: Eos 10 and Eos 600 bodies with caps, cases, and instructions, 35-80 4-5.6, 35-70 3.5-4.5, and a 70-210 3.5-4.5 ultrasonic, plus a generic canon FD fit zoom, some caps and filters, and a very nice old-style tabletop tripod with cable release. There's slight fungus in the 35-80 but the rest seems good and working well, so I ought to make a good profit at £69 including delivery.

Because I hate lugging a 40 pound camera bag around...and because I am too porky for a vest...just sprung for a Pentax Tamron 28-300 macro...only had time to take a couple of quick shots at the post office...but think I will be pleased overall.

just ordered a 'used' battery grip for my K-5 from B&H.....

I'll shoot it when it arrives, just for posterity's sake, of course....

"Superzooms" get a bad rap sometimes, but they can be great when you want a "one lens solution" so long as you're prepared to accept the unavoidable compromises. I have that same screw-drive Tamron 28-300 in Sony A-mount and - used properly (i.e. stopped down somewhat) - it can produce very nice images. Enjoy!

update.... finally had a box of SMU's make it to the house:

Fujinon 55mm f2.2

tiny little smidge of a lens, but huge color and bokeh...
Congrats ... that's a great/fun lens when it's ran wide open or near that ... here's an example for those interested.

Two thrift store finds ... for 1€ a dead battery Fuji DL-200 and for 3€ a working Canon Prima Tele (Autoboy) with case and a good battery plus a roll of shot film in it. I always destroy this type of film find ...

The Fuji has a "battery set" which must be dealer replaced (great idea), but I will see if I can whip something up ... and what's really cool about the Canon is that you can put it into a half-frame mode. See the "shutters" closed and it's the yellow tab which actuates this function ... you cannot change it in mid-roll.

Last but not least, some new goodies for the Mamiya M645 ... a CDS prism and a Sekor C 35/3.5 N which translate to a 22mm lens in 135 format. The excellent prism was from Ffordes for a very reasonable priced and the 35mm was "cheap" off of UK eBay since it has just the tiny, almost unnoticeable spot of fungus on the front element. Not even enough to justify an intervention by my books.
