Found a FA* 24/2 in a local store in good condition for a resonable price.
It is a lens I have looking out for, for some time.

I know it is not the greatest lens on digital, but for $240 I could not resist.

My first FA* lens.

Funnily, I'm not getting the upgrade itch with the same CPU. Although mine's currently watercooled with a NZXT Kraken X61 at around 5.2GHz.

The GTX 980ti helps too

Lens was sitting on my desk safe and sound this morning. It's, somewhat unfortunately, not as clean as I'd have hoped - there's plenty of dust specks in there but absolutely no fungus or scratches so it's the lesser of three evils. Seller was correct that everything is smooth and turns correctly, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I shall chuck it on the camera shortly and see how much of an issue dust specks are.

It was inexpensive and uncommon enough that I'd be minded to send it off for some TLC, but I'll try it out before jumping towards that decision!

Edit: It seems to perform quite well, despite the dusts present. I'm minded to notify the seller anyway as it was described as 'clean optics'.
I need to spend some hands-on time with it now. It's lovely to use, focus turns pretty smoothly with minimal 'grabbing' which I'm sure will loosen further the more I use her. Lovely lens.
Gah, I’m tremendously undecided. I can’t shake that it’s got a lot of dust bits n bobs in there. It seems to grab the focus ring a little when taking pictures mid-focusing which is an unusual sensation and for shallow DoF doesn’t give me huge confidence in it. When it’s on point it produces supremely sharp photos however...
I’ll sleep on it but I’m 51% towards sending it back...

Further update (sorry all!); The seller has offered a partial refund to either account for the lens to be used with dusts, or to part-pay towards having the lens cleaned. I hate asking for these kinds of things, but I probably wouldn't have bid for it had I known the extent of the dusts. Still, a reasonable outcome.

I watched a technician replace one of these on one of our furnace units yesterday:

this is the old one, with the faulty relay....

(photographically speaking, I am on the hunt for a Voigtlander 40/2)

its not really a 'thing' per se, but i just got a cat.
Its a Ragdoll breed. A kitten really. Been looking for getting a Ragdoll for some time. All that was available was either kittens too young, or cats too old. This was just right at 4 months.

of course, the day he got home, he got sick. Which is really heart breaking. After a week and a half, he is almost 100%. Silly thing wants to play more than eat or sleep.

Another job lot of odd photographic bits and pieces for a tenner, unfortunately not nearly as good as the last couple. The useful bits:

An adapter for using a spotting scope as a telephoto lens - with an M42 T-mount, I have no idea which scope it fits
A Zeiss Ikon quarter-plate film holder
A Zeiss Ikon polarizing filter
A pack of very large flash bulbs
A couple of skylight filters
A couple of stepping rings

There was also a PK Adaptall 2 mount that's missing the stop-down mechanism so pretty useless, a crappy 35mm plastic camera (no controls, no flash, fixed focus), damaged backs from a couple of unknown 35mm cameras, and a Canon Ixus APS camera that's missing it's battery cover.

Not nearly as good a haul as the last lot I got from the same guy, I'll be lucky to break even.

a couple of bakelites on the cheap and not useable but for display

sawyer's nomad 127....neat looking thing and the simple shutter works....should look quite decent with a little cleaning

argoflex 75 reckon I could spool 120 on a 620 spool but doubtful....in decent shape the shutter clicks and will look ok cleaned up
