I had to make a decision with my Soviet lens collecting some time ago. Initially, my target was to own a good, working (or easily repairable) copy of every Soviet SLR lens made - but some are so rare and, consequently, so expensive that I'll never realistically own them. It was a slightly disappointing realisation, but one I'm now comfortable with (though I still can't stop myself looking for the rarities on eBay )...

Unless you have a copy of every MF lens that Pentax ever made. I believe there a few members here who are well on their way...

Edit: My own goal is way more modest. I "only" want an MF Pentax prime in every major focal length. So far I have 20, 24, 28, 50, 100, 135, 200 and 400. I'm not really picky about K, M or A at this stage - I have an eclectic mix. Next on my list are 15, 35, 85, 300, 600 and 1000. The slightly oddball ones like 30, 120 and 500 can wait.

I think the 500mm f4.5 is easier to locate and considerably more reasonably priced than the 600mm f5.6 ED or the very old 1000mm f8.

You are entirely correct, but the 500 is just too close to the 400 that I already have. My LBA/GAS is under control (I think).

Those 1000/8 lenses are just so cool, as is the 1000/11 reflex. Come to think of it, I left the 2000/13 reflex off my list. But I can get by without one, no compulsive buying on my side.

It never hurts to drool while doing the internet's version of window shopping, just make sure to clean off the drool before leaving anywhere lol

Very happily purchased a K-Mount SMC 500mm f4.5 lens that I aim to use for birding and moon shots.

Secondly, just put a Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art lens on lay-By and will pick up just after Christmas Can't wait..

Hood for Pentax-FA 645 120mm macro

Some member was looking for an original hood for his FA 645 120mm macro. Here is one listed at a good price by Roberts on eBay:

agreed, but those side-pinch caps are useless if you are using a hood....

Well, I received my Vivitar 28-70mm f3.5-4.8 Macro Zoom lens today. Unfortunately, either they knew it wasn't working and sold it as working, or it was broken in transit which seems likely since they sent it in a bubble mailer. Something rattles around inside as you rotate it and there is a scratch on the lens. The zoom stopped working for a bit but then started working again and then stopped again. I'm thinking whatever is loose inside is getting caught in the zoom ring or something.

So, I've contacted the seller as it did not arrive in working order as it was advertised and I'll see what happens from here. Worst case scenario is I'm out $15. If anyone is interested in fixing it or using it as a test lens for repair, let me know and depending on what I work out with the seller, I might be able to send it on to you as I don't think I want to try taking apart the lens. The model does have some favorable reviews and I was looking forward to using it.
