I've been looking to add a Super-Takumar or SMC Takumar 135/2.5 to my lens addiction collection. Clean examples with caps have been selling (completed sales and auctions) for $100 to over $150 plus shipping. I've bid on a few, but tap out at around $125 because I do not need another 135mm! So, watching the new listings, I spy a Pentax Spotmatic estate sale find with five lenses, two flash, and bag with a starting bid of $129 and $28.75 shipping. Also had the 'best offer' option. I offered $110 plus shipping for the lot, figuring the seller would decline since it was less than 24 hours into the auction. They accepted my offer. Now, the sellers photos were fairly poor but his description said the camera sounded good and 'clicky’ with very clean lenses. I received the package yesterday and was hoping I didn't get burned (like my two attempts to buy an Asahi Pentax K in repairable condition).

Must say the seller was a little off on his description. EVERYTHING is nearly MINT except the chrome on the Spotmatic. No dust in any of the lenses, no cleaning marks, functionally perfect and the cases are nearly mint. The Spotmatic has been CLA'd at some point and is very nice. (Yeah, like I needed another Spotmatic I have five that work now). Even both flashes actually work. The camera bag, though an inexpensive model, is clean and would bring $10 in a thrift store. The lenses are: Super Takumars 50/1.4 with caps & case, 35/3.5 with caps & case, 135/2.5 with hood, caps & case, Osawa MKII MC 35-105/3.5-4.5 macro and a Accura Diamatic 300mm f/5.6 with caps & case. Also received a rubber hood for the 50mm and the classic Pentax pocket guide from 1967.

Very Nice Haul. Great Equipment Great Price Win win...Enjoy

I just bought a Pentax MX but it hasn't arrived yet. I wanted to use it for a still life shoot I need to do for my photo class but I just realized it'll come a week too late. Fortunately I have a Nikon F2 I can use but only 1 Nikon lens to use with it. Might have to take a ride to a camera store that specializes in older equipment to see if I can't pick up a good old lens on the cheap.

When I had that lens I thought it was sharp beyond its price, but it is fairly heavy. IIRC I thought the coatings were noticeably warmer than Pentax coatings. I you look for it you can correct for that in WB settings (maybe set up a custom UMode for that lens). I don’t recall if it has a self hood - I don’t think it does - I think I found the OEM hood on eBay and I thought using the hood improved contrast and reduced flare.

My K 50/1.2 has arrived. It is in great condition but there is some nasty fungus. Sigh....

All is not lost. The money spent so far is only about $100 - I might as well spend a bit more to put it right.

FA*80-200/2.8 with all the trimmings and working PZ. I’ve thought about adding this lens several times in the past but this one is just too good to let go by. From a member who has Excellent gear, so I’m sure it will be good. Plus, maybe I can skip arms at the gym after I use this for a long outing .

I know I’m supposed to buy new stuff to keep Pentax alive, but I can use this on my MZ-S and I sold my bought-new D FA*70-200/2.8, so I feel justified. I’ll spend for K-new. (Selling all my current APSc gear except the DA35/2.8 Macro Limited).

Amazingly sharp at 200mm! You will love it as it has the classic FA* rendering. And the workout that goes with the PZ is just an added bonus!

When you go shopping for the Nikon, consider Tamron as well. Doing so will allow you to use the same lenses on your MX. I am able to support four different mount systems (M42, Pentax-K, Pentax KA, and Minolta MD), something that comes in handy at time.

I own both the Pentax-A and the Tamron SP and consider the latter a heavy lens.* Note that the Tamron was the Series-1 v3 direct competition and that the weight was acceptable at the time. I consider both to to be highly desirable. Congratulations!

I am curious as to how the current lens stacks up against its vintage forbearers.

I bought the Tamron 19AH with the proceeds of selling the Vivitar (this was long enough ago that the Vivitar regularly changed hands for $275 - $325) but I have never cottoned to the Adaptall system. I still have the AD-2 SP 35-80/2.8-3.8 01A but I let go of all the other lenses and TC’s. That was a good day for KEH

The 19AH is also a special manual lens - excellent for its day.

I'm just looking for these lenses so I can take a still life picture for my photography class. I'm pretty set on lenses I want to use. Just need 1 or 2 Nikon lenses. I'd prefer using the MX because it's prettier than the F2 but I can't use what I don't have.

well, the deal went through and early next week my Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm F2.8-4 Macro Zoom PKA should be arriving

Serial No. 28XXXXXX it is one of the Third Verison with the PKA mount made by Komine:

Pentax Vivitar 70-210mm f2.8-4 Series-1 PKA PK-A Macro Zoom lens -

The third VS1 70-210 zoom was manufactured by Komine (SN 28nnnnnn), from about 1984 to 1986. Unlike the first two versions, which featured a constant f/3.5 aperture throughout the zoom range, this version was the first in the series to feature a fast-to-slow aperture transition, with f/2.8 at the 70mm end and f/4 at 210mm. Of interest to Pentax shooters (then as well as now), when Pentax released the first Ka bodies (and lenses), Vivitar also switched over to Ka functionality for this design as well, so that this version can be found with either K-mount or Ka-mount functionality. Modern Photography magazine lens tests showed this version to be a bit sharper than the earlier versions (although Modern Photo never tested the later versions for a more complete comparison).
