yep - I've been looking/thinking/considering a replacement for my DA18-135; there's a Sigma 50-150/2.8 HSM on its way....

Are you going to get the 17-50/2.8 to go with it?

probably not - this was just for a walk-around/convenience lens... the rest I do with primes...

I can recommend the Sigma 17-50 F2.8
Great lens excellent value for money.
No longer produced by Sigma means hunting for a clean used one.
I like primes too but make an exception for the Sigma lens.

I bought a Tamron 80-200/2.8 on eBay for $330. Based on a preliminary walk around with it today, I think it's a good copy.

Plan to use it mostly for 11-year-old baseball and dogs.

Zoom lenses are excellent as long as you keep in mind primes are much better

I won this 6627 actuations KP on eBay by a margin of $2.84 under my maximum bid of $555.55. $602 is the total after shipping and Pennsylvania 6% sales tax. Hoping it can replace my K3 for birding. The K3’s high ISO images are far too noisy, especially compared with my K5iis. I’m glad I kept most of the spare batteries I’d purchased for the Ks2, which was a mistake I quickly re-sold. Now to sell some lenses and other equipment to pay for the new acquisition.

Well my new acquisition is only temporary. I'm renting a KP from LensRentals for 5 days so l can take a self-portrait for my photography class.

A very nice day for a change, and some interesting stuff:

Portobello Road gave me
A Praktica Super TL with zebra Tessar 2.8/50 for £5 - the lens has fungus in the front element but it's working well mechanically, the body is working mechanically but I don't have the right battery for the meter, won't know if it's OK until I get one, but I'll make a profit on the lens anyway.
A Canon Eos 600 body that works perfectly when I put a battery in, also for a fiver - I'll probably sell that with a 35mm-only Sigma 70-210 I got at the end of last year.
A Pentax F autofocus 3.5-4.5 28-80 for £3 - working well, a bit battered cosmetically but the glass is good. They aren't hugely popular but it'll make a profit.
A Takumar-A 3.5-4.5 28-80 for £4 - a couple of faint scratches on the front element but otherwise OK - the third of these so far this year, they usually do fairly well but with scratches maybe not so good, but I'll probably come out ahead.
A Konica Hexanon AR 50/1.8 for £3 - light fungus but it'll still make a profit.

And... drum roll...got a boxed Nikon AF G 70-300 f4-5.6 in a charity shop for £20! Minor cosmetic marks but working perfectly. I may keep this for myself, but I think it's more likely I'll sell it on, I already have a 28-300 AF Tamron and a 100-500 Vivitar Series 1 MF and don't really want another long lens unless it turns out to give much better results.

In less good news the first of the job lots I got last weekend has arrived and is not very good - for £16 including postage I got a Canonet Junior, a Cosmic Symbol, two 110 cameras and one disc film camera. Unfortunately the Canonet shutter isn't working, and it has slight fungus - I'll try to sell it on for spares and repairs. The Cosmic Symbol should fetch a fiver or so, the rest of it can go into my box of crap for future job lots.

I finally bought a 150mm long lens plate for use with my K 500/4.5 and K 135-600.

It is better to take a picture with a zoom lens than no picture at all because the focal length needed was not available.
Still I prefer primes.

The Sigma 17-50 F2.8 is an excellent lens but can not come near the nearly 40 year old Pentax 50 mm A series macro lens.
I prefer the Sigma zoom over the Pentax 16-50 lens, at 2-8 the Sigma lens beats the Pentax.
