just bought a SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.7
Arguably the f1.7 has the best IQ of any Pentax normal FL lens. The design may be flawed by color fringing which was not as much a concern in lens performance during the Film Era as now, but fringing can be corrected almost completely in PP.
BTW: A lens-quality term once regularly discussed and debated in the Film Era but I've not heard much today is acutance, which is, more or less, the way a lens resolves or records an edge. If edges are sharp or "clean," as opposed to having a slight fringe of blur or mist or fuzziness, the perception of sharpness and resolution is greatly enhanced. That's why I like the new Topaz Sharpen AI program. As best I can tell, the "stabilize" mode removes the blur or softmess* along edges which makes a big difference in the visual/psychological perception of sharpness and resolution of an image.
