The J-9 looks pretty good on the new KP. Congratulations on both.

Thanks Steve.
It's a very early model, probably the rarest version. Pre RF and traditional SLR version.
Super sharp at f2. Nothing like hazy soft later versions.

Out of curiosity, what is the serial number? I have two, a fairly recent MC version in M42 and a silver, red-P (П) version in Contax/Kiev mount that dates to 1962.

Well my latest purchase has finally arrived, a mint condition 18-135mm which I have owned before and regretted selling but have now rectified that.

I mentioned 'Good Deal Karma' in Recent De Acquisitions thread after selling my DA*16-50 for $270 shipped. Giving a good, square deal often seems to land one in your lap soon after.
For several months, I've been hunting for a 1957-1958 Takumar 58mm f/2.4 in good condition. I want to use it, and display it with one of my two AP bodies. The Takumar 58/2.4 generally lists on eBay for between $150 for a fungus riddled turd from Japan, to over $300 for a near perfect example.
Functional Asahi Pentax bodies are $225 (ugly) to nearly $500 (mint). An auction popped up during a broad 'Asahi Pentax 35mm camera' search. "Original 1957 Asahi Pentax with Takumar 58mm f2.4, case, Strap Caps." Starting bid $195. I took a shot with a $267.99 max bid. Shipping is $15. Only one other bidder hit it, a professional sniper tried $199.00 with five seconds left in the auction. I got it for $200, $15 shipping and the 6% PA sales tax! I'd say that was a good 'karma' trade of a lens for a lens and camera!

In the pictures posted it is in amazingly good condition for its age. It looks almost unused.

The seller has many very good photos like those. The lens is described as very clean, no fungus, major dust or operational issues. A slight amount of haze and oil on one or two aperture blades (big deal-pre-set lens). Camera is also very clean with a few scratches and some dust in the finder. CLA two years ago with new back foam. Higher shutter speeds are correct, speeds from 1/25th down are slow. He also PM's me with more info. Can't wait to see it in person. I have a very early AP -SN1346xx, which works just about perfectly and would be nearly mint except for a nasty dent mushing down the point of the pentaprism. The body coming should make a better display piece.

The latest acquisition that I got maybe a month ago is the SMC Pentax-F 50mm F1.7. Bought it for 82£ from ebay.
I'm already convinced that the Pentax-F series lenses could be some of the best kept secrets in the Pentax Land.
I've rarley seen anyone mention them.

This thing actually has a great center sharpness wide open. Unlike some other old lenses that I've tried and are reputed to be sharp.
It renders colors and tones well, and the way it does them seems to match well for my post processing work flow.
The bokeh is fine to me. Not as smooth as, say Helios 44 (stopped down) but it has some sort of a documentary photography vibe to me.

Small and a light lens, and it has the AF. The focusing ring is very narrow but works well, light and precise to use. (no quick shift)
The pictures can have certain kind of a clarity.
It obviously does have some chromatic aberration wide open but it is doable and not nearly as bad as, say with DA 50 F1.8.
In every sense the Pentax-F is in a way different league than the aforementioned.
To get an adequate sharpness from the aforementioned it needs to be stopped down at least to F2.8. And even then the overall rendering isn't nearly as aesthetic to me.
As a whole when it comes to the image quality, the current impression is that the lens that I have paid most so far (and a lens that I still adore), the D-FA 100mm F2.8 Macro WR, feels more lacking in some areas.

Sorry for the long post.

And an excellent condition version. Mine gave up the shutter curtains in the 1980's with no replacements in sight. I bought it in 1961 in a pawn shop with 55/2.2 preset. I have no idea how many K10, K25, K64 slides I have in my collections that I took with it. Your shot brought back happy memories.

Got an adapter

I was happy to take delivery of a like-new Pentax brand Pentax 645 - Pentax K-1 adapter. These things are not cheap, but I got this one in like-new condition from a Japanese eBayer for a little less than $100. I used to buy cheap Chinese adapters, but nowadays I am using only genuine Pentax adapters: P67-P645, P67-K-mount, and 645P - K mount. The "real" ones are engineered better, look better, and do not stick on the camera, create unnecessary flare, and fit loosely so that the lens is loose in the camera mount, but cost 3-4 times as much as the Chinese cheapies.

I got a Godox TT350P Mini Thinklite TTL flash and two Vello shutter cable releases from B&H.

My original Vello cable failed about a month ago. Had it for six or seven years. At $7.99 US I do not expect a lot out of them but it worked longer than I thought it would. The Pentax one cost $50. Cheaper to have one of the inexpensive ones and a spare.

The flash seems to work as advertised.

Very true! Though the way I see it: here should be an emphasis on Good Quality.

I was in a fortunate position to improve the audio qualtity of custom built mixing consoles used by Polygram decades ago.
They contained a serious design flaw that affected all signals going through these consoles.
The effect became known as Transient Intermodulation Distortion. I used my ears and a self designed amplifier to show the problem.
Later a couple of Finnish scientists, one of which was Mr. Otala, proved the defect by using mathematics.

The newly designed consoles were green instead of black. The first studio to have these was the Wisseloord studio in the Netherlands.
