I decided to buy a white solenoid to fix my K-S1, before those Matsushita lots run out. I do find 45 dollars a bit expensive for such a small and simple component, but if it's going to give me a few years of use out of the K-S1, then it's worth it. I was going to leave the K-S1 as a manual lens camera, but the recent purchase of the DA 70 Limited almost begs for a small body like the K-S1 to go with it*, and I should also buy a DA 21 sometime this year - and that would be a killer two lens/1 body setup to carry anywhere.

*My K-50 would also be a candidate but the DA 70 is one of the lenses that causes electronic/shutter issues on my K-50 (the reason why I was given the K-50 for free is that this happens with some lenses). The DA 35 Limited and the Sigma 30 1.4 Art work perfectly fine on the K-50, as do any old M or K lenses, while the DA 35 2.4, the DA*16-50 and the DA 70 cause the shutter to open back after a shot is taken a lot of the time... I have no idea why.

I've found the 50/1.8 to be a very nice lens and great fun to use. I get on with it much better than I ever did with my FA 50/1.7.
Thanks. That is very encouraging I must admit the more I read, the more I look forward to its arrival

Was this a mark II 50/1.8? I have read many stories of them simply falling apart. The STM version is very nice and I understand the mark I is nice, though a bit noisy when focusing with that old AF motor.
Yes - the second like this I've seen. There are two or three ways it can happen, and all of them are fairly tricky to fix so I'm going to make it someone else's problem by selling it as faulty.

Upgrade from my M 200mm f4 (very cheap) to a K 200mm f4 (still quite cheap). The M is okay but the K noticeably better. Just need the local herons to put an appearance in, which is why I wanted a 200mm in the first place.
Yep, it would be easy to think they'd perform the same but the K is much better than the M. I sold my M after very little use and lucked upon a K years later for, I think, just €12, and it's a keeper.

My recent attempts to acquire new gear fall into two groups:

A: The seller turns around and sells it to someone else just before the transaction is completed.
B: The seller refuses to post the item and insists on the transaction being in hand.

On the plus side, that keeps my photography fund healthy.

That is awesome! Congratulations on your new pup! It warms my heart when someone rescues a pet.

Oh Mika is cute. I rescued my spaniel 7½ years ago. He has cost me a fortune but its the best thing we ever did. OK, time for another walk in the rain, YAY! 😂😂😂

This is our first dog. We've had Emma, an 11yr old Jack Russell Terrier, visit us for extended periods (weeks and months) over the past few years when her mom was travelling (my daughter's boyfriend's mom), and we decided we should get a dog too. My kids are a little pissed - they wanted a dog growing up, but could not commit to taking care of any pet - ie walking it - so we never got one. Now that they are off in college and grad school, we've gotten one.

The OM-1 MD isn't in mint condition but it works. The Zuiko Auto-S 50/1.8 is considered by many Olympus users to be better than the 1.4. I'll probably send it to Garry's for a CLA.

I'm 0-4 in finding an Autoreflex with a working meter. T, T2, TC, T4, all dead. I might buy a T3 to see if I go 0-5. One of them will probably go to Greg Weber in any case.

My record with Minolta SR-Ts is only slightly better, 1-3. 100, 101, 201 all dead, and a 102 that works. Which is ok because the 102 is an early mirror lockup version...

I just got a GoPro Hero 9. I have some projects I want to do with it like POV skiing and mountain biking and maybe some photography vlogging.
Seems pretty cool. The stabilization is amazing.

Received a couple of very big job lots today - some of it rubbish, but for around £80 including postage the goodies included very clean 400mm and 500mm t-mount lens and a couple of big manual focus zooms, some large-format enlarger lenses that ought to be very nice as bellows lenses, Pentax SFX and *1st 35mm bodies, a 35mm slide duplicator, a nice clean Sigma AF APO 70-210 3.5-4.5 which is enamelled olive green, possibly for military use, instead of the usual tacky black material - unfortunately it's Minolta A mount so it will sell for a lot less than it should - a nice Sony bridge camera that has their nightshot infrared capability, and so forth. I ought to make a reasonable profit - might even keep a couple of things for myself.
