those work, but I go further down the food-chain, to the store-brand versions....
Gotta find me some of those. I love chocolate mint cookies.

Neat stuff! Sorry to hear about the flood. That type of thing is terrible. I need to go scan some old negatives and slides and then back that up too.

technically, an SMU (Standardized Measuring Unit) is a Thin Mint, product of the Girl Scouts..

since they are not available year-round, I found that my local grocer has a generic equivalent that is identical in size, flavor, and stackability to the Thin Mint...

Someone should inform the Girl Scouts that they need to sell their cookies year round, for standardization purposes.

Splurge and Purge time

The Splurge: This spring I bought a Silver K3 Mk 3 but no grip. I’d taken the grip off my K3 Mk 2 for a reason I can’t recall and liked it better that way.

Then I found a Silver DFA 50mm f1.4 on Amazon that I could get at 0% interest for 18 months and I had some Amazon Reward points saved to at least cover the sales tax. Plus I knew I wouldn’t take all 18 months to pay it off. So I bought that!

I recently started doing volunteer event photography again. Hadn’t done any of that since pre-covid. I usually carry two cameras doing those things. In doing a couple in a row I realized that handling of K3-Mk3 was like driving a sports compared to the K3-Mk2. And switching back and forth in a dynamic environment was awkward. So I bought a Black K3 Mk3 body, again at 0% interest.

Yesterday I paid off the entire credit card balance just in time for the release of the DA* 16-50 in August.
Edit: (I pre-ordered the lens this morning.)

I decided at seventy-one years of age, healthy and still working full time I probably have more discretionary income than discretionary years.

The Purge: Obviously the K3 Mk2 will go up for sale as soon as I get around to it, as well as a smattering of lenses if I decide I like the DA* 16-50. It will probably replace several.

I just ordered some skis, DPS Wailer F106 C2s. It's the best time of year to buy them on sale.
I've never had a pair of DPS's so I'm excited to get on them (in a few months).
Now bring on the snow!

this thread's SMU isn't always practical.
Today's acquisition is a natural gas port on the exterior of our home. I've been meaning to do this for several years, but being in Texas last winter convinced me that now is better than later. I converted our backup power generator from gasoline to natural gas. Good luck getting gasoline inside a large area power outage - probably lots nearby, but no electricity to run the pumps. Natural gas will be available for weeks and not merely hours like gasoline.

Got the Pentax 1.4 HD teleconverter today! Can't wait to give it a try. The pigeons on the back fence will get their close-ups.

You're helping the Girl Scouts AND science, that's enough, right?

Likely, but then the K 85/1.8 should be on the radar

I have neither, but will always be looking out for the K-series 85mm

actually, unless it's a different brand than Pentax, I think I've got my 85mm jones covered with the SMC A* 85/1.4

I’m envious.

My lens of choice is any fixed focal length A series lens, including all brands but focusing on Pentax A lenses.
