If you plant ten times that number you could eventually obtain one gram (1/32 oz) of saffron suitable for use as a spice. At retail saffron costs over $2000 per pound, but to get that pound you'd need to plant over 76000 saffron plants. How large is your garden? How much idle time do you have? It does not seem viable way to finance LBA.

I might get 10 stems at the most, if I remember to pick them and the weather permits... Planting them in a clay pot. I just want to see them grow and hopefully flower. Maybe in 20 years my corms/tubers will multiply enough so that I can start a business

Please, please do not hold your breath for a profit. The only places that can profit from saffron have neither unions nor minimum wage laws.

It's better then to just use those stems to add flavor to some rice based dish! I remember the saffron-flavored rice my grandmother used to do and my mouth still waters

Interesting! And, just for fun, I worked out how much that works out per kg! $35,800/kg!!!

Amazing that a company in NZ can profitably operate such a labor-intensive operation.

Saffron-flavored rice is about the only place I encounter that singular spice. Considering the cost of saffron, perhaps a blandly tasting item such as rice is a good dish to let the saffron stand out. You wouldn't want to use saffron on a pepperoni pizza or a stir-fry.based on kielbasa

A new Model F keyboard.

Basically the end of 5 years of waiting for a recreation of an expensive, overbuilt computer keyboard from the 80s.
