For some time, I have been intrigued with getting the first version of Gossen's Lunasix (aka Luna Pro) with low light sensitivity to -8 LV (8 minute exposure at f/1.4 for ISO 100 or 2 minutes at same aperture for ISO 400). That is one very dim room!
So it was that a week or so ago there was a small discussion here regarding utility of hand-held meters (I always have one in the bag, even when shooting with cameras having TTL metering). Remembering the Lunasix, I was curious about availability and whether there were many working survivors. Starting at KEH, I was startled to see that in addition to some "ugly" and "as is" for a few dollars, they were offering a Lunasix in EX+ condition bundled with the appropriate case for $37.77. Shipping and tax pushed the total to $50 and the two were on their way. When the box showed up on Monday, I was blown away. The meter is pristine with no scratches to the case and no tool marks on screws or fittings. Except for lack of box and manual, I would swear it is NOS. Ditto for the case.
Sooo...here is a quick product shot from this evening so I could show it off...
The meter scale and dial faces are actually bright white. I added some tint in PP (silly me) to add the appearance of age.
Did I mention that it both works and is accurate? I power it with a modern 386 silver oxide cell and a voltage reduction adapter from Kanto Camera in Japan. What a deal
FWIW, the product shot, was done with my K-3 and XR Rikenon 35/2.8. Lighting was provided by a single on-camera 1981 vintage Vivitar 3500 flash sporting the dedication module with analog TTL flash support (think Super Program, LX, and 645). With the Rikenon, TTL is not available, though it still is capable of three levels of "auto" flash, a feature that delivered without a hitch. Happy camper, I am. BTW...yes, the Viv 3500 is voltage safe and measures mere a 4.98V with the DM/P-TTL module.
