For grins and giggles I got a Head 1080p Action Cam at Ollie's Outlet for $29.99. I am going to do one of two things with it. Take up base jumping, mountain biking, sky diving and get a wing suit to jump off mountains in Switzerland. Or I am just going to screw around with it.

Cute little thing.

Today I received a box from a purveyor of film stuff (Nik & Trick) containing
Bellini Hydrofen
ID-11
1ltr of Adofix,
Adoflow
A roll of Kodak vision 250D
A glass bottle for the ID-11
3 measuring syringes
An Amazon parcel contained a vacuum pump and stoppers for said glass bottle
And the last parcel contained my photobook review of 2021
I think that counts as a good haul

Who's been a busy lad?! Or rather, who's going to be busy

I've almost bought a few items individually from Nik & Trick, but their shipping prices have put me off. I guess it's better value when you buy several items from them in one go? They stock some great stuff, and appear to be genuine enthusiasts...

You should set up a forum poll with those choices and go with the majority. My pre-vote is for the wing-suit and Swiss mountains...

2 new oscillating table fans

I use these in the bedrooms, mainly to assist our small window air conditioners.

Despite regular cleaning and lubrication after several years the old ones have gotten rather noisy.
I will leave those in our building's e-waste recycling area with a note that they do still work.
Someone will adopt them and be pleased with their new free treasure find.

I tried that so many times over so many years, this year I decided to take my mad money and get all the things to round out all my kits so that I stop haunting the for sale lists, eBay, sales at stores, and PF listings and stop wasting my time.

I got:
K3 III, when released
K1 II, like new, Map camera, Japan
K3 II, like new, Map camera, Japan, converted to IR 720nm
F 80-200, eBay
F 17-28 fisheye, eBay
DFA 28-105, resold
Sigma DG 24-135, resold
Sigma DG 24-60, kept- BEST ZOOM EVER
FA* 300 f4.5
FA 77 from PF member (edit add)
Samyang 20mm
Samyang 8mm
SMC Takumar 20mm and hood
Sigma 30mm f1.4
Irix Blackstone 11mm
Many filters

Now if I could only get that SMC Takumar 120mm f2.8

Agreed - the Sigma 24-60 is unexpectedly magnificent. I parted with mine to get the 16-85 for my K70. Now I have a K1, I think it would be a perfect general purpose zoom, although my Sigma 28-105 UC III is very very good.

Well a box arrived from Amazon yesterday. I am building my own solar generator. Less expensive than the "Store bought" units and easy to repair and failed components. I will be using a LiFePO4 battery so more recharging recycles than most of them too. When done I will be able to charge the batter from solar panels I already have or from a wall outlet. Package included:

- Rich Solar 20A MPPT solar charge controller.

- Giandel 600W pure sine wave inverter.

- A fuse block.

Next month a 50A battery and power supply to charge the battery from an outlet. I already have the solar panels to do the job that way. I will probably install it all in a plastic milk crate for portability and wire the charge controller so that I can use it to charge the batteries in my caravan/rv trailer too.

Will Prowse on Youtube has a video of the one he made. Big fan of that young whippersnapper.

Could not resist a very small tele zoom for my K1. Pentax-F 70-200mm, not the smc version, that I picked up yesterday.

I went for a walk around the lake this morning, caught a Night Heron and a Spoonbill.

I had Zenmarket bundle me four lenses. (they do it for free unlike Buyee) Arrived today.

SMC Pentax-A 35-70 3.5-4.5 turns out to be broken. Rear element is rattling in the body and aperture lever is bent. Hopefully I can fix it.

SMC Pentax-A 35-70mm 1:4
This one looks OK but not to sure about the heavy wear on the front of the focus ring (edit: It's the filter ring that's missing. ground or broken off). It may be decentered. I also wonder what the lenscap for this one is. A regular 49mm won't fit (nor will a 49mm filter) (wel that mystery is also solved. There is supposed to be a 58mm filter thread. No more.)

SMC Pentax-m 28mm 1:2.8

A pretty common one but didn't have it yet. It looks fine even though sold a junk. There was fungus but just on the skylight filter on the other lens that was sold with it (next one after this).

The last one came with the 28mm so I had no choice but to buy it too. SMC Pentax 200mm 1:4. Front element bit dirty but have since cleaned it. I think it won't reach infinity because it seems to extend further than the copy I already own, but perhaps Pentax changed it a bit.

Edit: The 35-70/35-45 is fixed. You can screw out the plastic rear plate. Lens and fixing tube came out so I could just put the lens in the rear plate and screw tube onto it to fix it and screw it all back. I wonder if it is a lens at all. Looks pretty flat to me, or I was lucky not reversing it.

close up shot with it at 70mm macro:

Ghost Purchase...

A package arrived yesterday from Adorama that I truly thought I would never see. Several months ago, Pentax announced EOL for the O-GPS1 unit for hot-shoe mounted GPS and Astrotracer function on selected Pentax dSLR cameras. Six months went by and O-GPS1 stock began to disappear from the usual online vendors' stock. On a whim this last November 11, I checked out Adorama and noticed that they were offering them as backordered at the regular price of $196.95 USD. I figured there was no harm in seeing whether they might be able fulfill and since the O-GPS-2 was probably a year or more away, it may have some value if it ever shows.

A quick look with Google this evening and it is possible that I may be able to double my money or more*. Who would have known.

* Amazon wants $700+ for new from Japan.

A dedicated K-70 for Astro work is rumoured. They will hardly be able to sell that with no astro -tracer available.

  • Features: The imaging system is 10 times more sensitive to the H-alpha spectral line than the standard model.
  • Restrictions: Not for daytime use.
  • Price: ¥150,000 (tax included) [twice the price of the standard model]
  • Release date: 2022 or later
The O-GPS 1 is quite old now. Surely a more compact unit would be possible

I had the same lens with similar damage - missing the entire filter ring; I ended up epoxying a step-up ring just inside of the filter ring used to be and used that for lens hood, holding the cap, etc....

One would think so, on both points. The addition of AW seals on the O-GPS2 is a huge improvement. A little smaller form factor and provision for external power would be great too.
