Leica lenses on 645d

If someone likes the particular look of images shoot with old Visoflex Leica lenses...
they cover the format, and an adapter is easily made.
I tested with very pleasing results the Elmar 65/3,5 the tele Elmar 135/4 and Telyt 200/4

How can they be made?

Sergio: Since the Viso lenses were designed for 35mm format, how do the edges look? This is an amazing discovery. I think the shortest Viso compatible lens was the 65mm, correct?
Thanks

Ron, I made this one using a 645 front cap, an aluminun ring to position a Leica bayonet,
"borrowed" from a type 2 Viso (only 6 screws). If you want, I can make a drawing.

DW, the adapter advertised on eBay is for m39 Visoflex lenses, that should also be usable.

ogl, full size samples of the images posted below are available on the "view all sizes"page
on Flickr (1&3 iso 1000, 2 iso 200)

Gurtch, as Lager says in his Leica book(so a Leica expert told me), Visoflex lenses are derived from large format designs, and have a very wide image circle. I see no vignetting, and just a slight resolution loss on border of images, (with resolution charts) but nothing that cannot be accepted
from an old Leica lens, and yes, 65mm is the shortest that can be used.

Thanks Sergio. I just spent $65 an bought an adapter on the bay. I use to use Leica M film gear many moons ago, and need a Primer on Visoflex. Can the 65mm lens be use directly? I seem to remember needing a universal focusing mount? The longer lenses, I seem to recal, came unscrewe to use only the lens head, an I assume one needs the focusing mount. Did you use the lens in manual? Or if you set the F stop on the lens, can you use Aperature Preferre auto exposure? Thanks in advance. (Perhaps I should look for an old Leica Manual).

Dave, I suspect that the adapter available on eBay is suitable for the Visoflex 1 system
that is described in the following link

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.de/images/3/31/Visoflex-I-BAL_VI-53-DY.pdf

My adapter is suitable for Visoflex 2 and 3 lenses. Complete description here

Visoflex I

65mm, 90mm, 135mm lenses all require a common focusing helicoid, while 200mm and longer go directly on the adapter as these were directly designed for Viso and have theyr own focusing helicoid.
The lenses can be used in auto exposure with aperture priority. The 65 and 200 have a ring to preset aperture, so you can focus full open and than close the diafragm in a "semi auto" mode.

Do you allready have Viso lenses?

Sergio: No, I no longer have Viso lenses. I think I jumped the gun buying the adapter without doing more research. I suspect finding Viso I lenses and focusing helocoid will be much harder to find. I used to have a Viso I, bellows and several lenses---many many years ago. Thanks for the links and taking time to answer.
Best regards
Dave

And can Leica R lenses also be used on 645D?

I think that it is not possible to build an adapter for R lenses: the distance from bayonet to focus plane
for Leicaflex is only 47mm, while for the 645 is 72, to great a difference.

As sergiolov posted above, the flange distances are far too great for R lenses to be used. There is also the fact that many 35mm lenses simply do not have an image circle big enough to cover even a reduced-frame 645 sensor.

Sergiolov,

If you are using 16464 focusing helicoid, then the first 90/2.8 Elmarit head would work too. Or with a 16462 you can use 90/2 Summicron or 135/2.8 Elmarit heads as well.

Besides some Visoflex lenses, all macro lenses for SLRs with FL longer than 70-75mm and designed for bellows could be employed for the relatively compact sensor size of the 645D, after all the sensor diagonal is not that large as to fall out of the illumination circle of general 35mm lenses longer than 70-75mm; whereas for the actual 645 (film) diagonal they fall short. Promptly the Macro-Elmar 100/4 for Leica-R or 105/4 Micro-Nikkor for Nikon SLRs come to mind; probably users of Canon or Pentax SLRs might suggest some additional ones.

The issue with those lenses could be their design characteristics, optimized for close ranges. However 135 Tele-Elmar or 90 Summicron are known to maintain their virtues along their whole focus range. By the way, Sergiolov, I think you will be more pleased if you try the Summicron between f4 to 11, as it is way sharper than the Tele-Elmar.
