Why did you buy a K-01?

The appeal to me would be a reduction in size. But the K-01 looks like if offers little in reduction over the dslr. Any other benefits to the K-01?

1. Only mirrorless so far to be able to use full size lens' without an adapter.
2. Not all mirrorless have the hotshoe availability.
3. Manual focusing-peaking of the K-01. I was suprised not to see this on the new K-30, but expect to see it on a majority of all new Pentax cameras.
4. In camera SR as opposed to needing to have it on the lens as an option; so now most every lens has SR.

Yeah, but what attracted you to a mirrorless over a dlsr MFP? Size didn't seem to be in your thoughts.

I was just looking for a new back-up body. I have a K-5 and even film bodies back to LX, K1000, ME, etc...

The manual focus-peaking was my number one consideration. If Pentax would have offered it in a dslr I would have considered that as well.

And even though I started this posting with "looking for a back-up"... The K-01 has added more to my portfolio and gallery than any of my non medium format cameras - ever. So it's no longer really a back-up - although I don't think I'll be using it as a primary camera at any weddings

The K-30 does have focus-peaking!

Focus peaking would have been my main reason for grabbing a K-01. Ideal partner for M-lenses. But now it's on the K-30, I'm thinking it would be nice to have the OVF option as well, in the same camera.

Size can't be that important to go K-01. Even a NEX is big with a lens attached to it

It's a feature that makes sharp, in focus edges glow on the LCD while focusing in Live View. So, as you turn the focus ring, the glowing edges will change to show you where you're focusing.

Why I choose the K-01:

As a second body - When going to take pictures with my wife we kept taking turns on our K-r and that can be annoying and also meant loosing some good shots
Size - While not a P&S it is smaller than the K-r, that plus a small prime (the 40mm XS and the 21mm in my case) and you get a great package. With that I can just leave the camera at my wife's purse and not have that "I wish i had a camera" moment
IQ - It's better than the K-r, which is already very good
Lens - No need to get a new system and new lens just for it.
Focus Peaking - For MF this is an awesome tool:

All and all I'm very happy with it. It fits my needs and I get the most important thing: great IQ

Yes, very! Honestly I leave focus peaking always on. Every time I want a precise focus it's there to help me. You can shoot MF very fast and getting the focus just right. My 50mm f1.2 got a new life because of it.

I did considder a yellow K-x, but it was not available in Europe. Looked into it on ebay, but descided I had other priority's (camera's and lenses). Then came the yellow K-r with the yellow 35mm/f2.4 and again I was thinking about them. The lens never came to Europe, but the yellow K-r did. I didn't want that camera because off the limitations and the better image quality of the 16 megapixel sensor.

The K-01 delivered on the image quality and being yellow is great.
