Keep the discussion going but I have to add that based on the info, I went and picked up a Q with the 01 prime lens this afternoon. Really wanted the yellow K-01 but...you all talked me into the Q. Very interesting, thanks.
Congratulations! It's all Lauren's fault

Since I already have 3 Pentax DSLRs, I'd like to have a Q. I've always lusted after one, especially for getting ridiculous reach with tele K-mount lenses. Alas, no $$$. No $$$, no Q. Maybe I can pick up a used one someday.

Depends on who you order from. Remember those Optios that were shipped as Q's from QVC?

And you'll have to admit that the Q has a better grip than the K-01 and looks much better as a fashion accessory!!
thanks/Erik

Better grip? Hmmmm...never thought about that. As I'm now getting used to the Q it does have a decent grip. I'll check out the K-01 again. Since I'm a fashion disaster, I wouldn't know about it being an accessory but then again, I may put it on my key ring...

I couldn't resist the temptation. I just bought the yellow k-01 at Adorama but since it's back order I have to wait.

I just bought a K-01 (body) - after considering a number of other hybrids; the ability to use all of my Pentax lenses was persuasive - not to mention the price ($349). So far, I am really impressed - despite what some reviewers have said, I found the camera quite comfortable to hold and operate. Unquestionably a cool, if not somewhat quirky, design but very functional and solidly built. With my DA 1:2.8 40mm Limited, it's pretty trim. Larger lenses felt comfortable as well and fit the general scale of the camera body, and handled well. I'm very pleased with the first pix and camera performance!

Oh, sure rub it in. Congrads on your K-01. I'm enjoying my Q and just got the fisheye lens to play with.

I'd like a K-01, too, but I would not trade my Q for it (even if the price was the same).
If I get a good price on one I'll jump on it, of course, but in my somewhat limited book
the K-01 would not be that much easier to bring with me than a DSLR.
And then you'll want the lenses and stuff...

The Q, though, is an entirely different class of camera. I'm usually armed with two C-mounts:
the f1,4/25mm on the body and the f1,6/4-10mm that sits in my pocket with the extra battery pack.
And considering that for me it replaces an aging Kodak 10x optical zoom 10 MPix compact I'm a happy camper.
Which I can't say for my wallet - but you can't make an omelette w/o breaking eggs...

Thanks/Erik

I own the Q and the K-01, bought them both during the first week they were out, a solid small two camera kit. I don't regret my purchases at all even with the extreme price drops. They'll hold me over till Ricoh releases a real succeeder to the K5.

The plan for me was just to get the K-01 but I've had such bad luck getting my hands on one (canceled orders and backorder issues) that I ended up getting a Q while I waited. I have totally fallen in love with the Q in a fairly short amount of time (fun and convenience to the max) and would never give it up. Still looking forward to K-01 and to diving into the world of Limited lenses (already have the 21).
