PK Tether with K-01?

Has anyone tried this option? I don't have the camera to test, was wondering if anyone has given it a try to see if you can either control it or use it to download pictures like tethering.

Haven't tried it, but I am pretty sure that support would specifically have to be added as I am pretty sure it goes by the model number that is reported to the program through USB.

Thanks. I'm thinking that if there's no support for it, then one of the IR intervalometers might do the trick.

I recently tried using PK_Tether with my newly purchased K-01 and it didn't work for me. Windows recognized that I had plugged in the camera but, PK_Tether didn't.

Both modes of USB come up as attached storage devices, not Human Interface or Camera devices.

Lightroom doesn't see the camera either, only the SD card in the camera.

Is there any chance of adding the k-01 to the list? With the new low price, they are selling a lot of them now.

I spent a lot of time trying to add K01 support, but only with partial success – I got communication but wasn’t able to download photo. Maybe I will try again, but not in near future.

Pktriggercord at least partially works with the K-01.

I added the initial K-01 support and then sent it to the author of the program.

Not sure if he has changed anything since then.

Could you elaborate on what features work?

thanks

It appears you need Gimp installed in order for pkTriggerCord to work.

I'm new to the forum, but I've been using Pentax DSLRs since the K10D came out. I've recently bought a K-01 specifically to do all sky auroral time lapse imaging. I initially tried with the K10D with pktriggercord, but found the K10D's sensor far too noisy to do astrophotography. I've been quite keen to get pktethercord running with the K-01. It appears K-01 support is incomplete, but promising.

I'm using version 0.81.01 (the lastest version from svn), running on Ubuntu 12.04 Linux (64-bit). It does indeed drive the K-01, but at a very rudimentary level. Acquiring images works, but setting parameters is buggy. I can change the aperture in software, but I can't set shutter speed or iso. Shutter speed appears stuck at 9999 on the camera's display. Multiple frame sequences and setting intervals also works. These are the features I need in order to perform time lapse sequences.

Hmm, it appears the K-01 does not have a socket for a wired remote. Nor will Autotracer in the GPS unit work with the K-01.

I suppose you can take on of these:

and hook it up to one of these:

...and that's hugely disappointing: Pentax listed "astrotracker" as one of the advertised features for the K-01, on its release (it was listed "will be supported in a firmware update", I think)...but has so far not delivered.

I'd almost suggest that one could legitimately file a complaint against them for "false advertisement" here....I'm not into astrophoto, but it still irks me.

Pentax, are you listening? Deliver what you promised....

That wouldn't work. The wired remote only works like holding the down the release button, one of the two modes, for long exposures. The wireless doesn't work like that, you have to fire it once to start the exposure and fire it again to make it stop. Well..it would work but you will have to wait for the length of the exposure for your next shot. I am on the look out for a solution as well. The built in interval exposure doesn't work in bulb. It would have been perfect if it did.

I could see what the camera was pointed at, but the shutter was not always working properly.

It seemed like most stuff worked from the command line, but the GUI had issues doing stuff properly.

It looks like he released a newer version, so it may be fixed.

I tested from command line. I was able to change shutter speed and aperture. Changing ISO did not work. Interval shooting works. The most important thing for me, the Bulb mode does not work. It doesn't fire in bulb mode, with both "press and hold" and "press twice" settings.
