I can't decide..

I have just bought a K01 and a Q, but cannot decide which one to keep. The K01 has fantastic image quality, the 40mm Xs is great ad generally its excellent....it's not very compact though. It is a bargain at the moment 299.

The Q - its a mini K01! Very functional, snappy AF (now I've updated the FW) and gorgeous to boot. The price; pretty expensive 411 for what I consider to be a compact (great for Birders' I know).

The problem is, both are fantastic, but I have an Alpha body already and i'm not sure I need another DSLR sized body. I don't have Pentax lenses but I do have quite a few M42. THe problem with the Q is that although in the market for a compact it is quite a lot of money. I cant afford both.

What do you guys think? Compact or IQ? (I would love to keep both) Is the old Q going to drop in price any further?

Kind Regards (and apologies if this has been answered before)
Tracy

Hi Tracy. To be honest, neither camera are worth very much nowadays, but both are just brilliant and pragmatic systems. It soundalike you're after compactness in deciding between these two, as you already have a dSLR. The question you should ask yourself is which camera would you reach for in the case of going out somewhere that it would be too cumbersome to take the dSLR. In that case, I'd keep the Q. It's not the best in IQ, but you have the dSLR for that.

Thanks Guys. its so tough! I only picked up the K01 as the price is so good and find it to be better than my expectations of it. I got the Q to compare to the V1, as a compact solution, but really don't like the V1 at all, despite the larger sensor and supposed faster AF.

Truly, if I didn't already have an Alpha body, it would be easy. I would keep both and be a happy camper

Personally I get fabulous IQ from the 'Q' - but then I always shoot RAW.
Bought both when the price was low.. I reach for the Q more often than the K-01 (or my K-7) But all three cameras have their roles. I plan to keep them all - as Ash suggests, they have no real resell value.

I had both and intended to keep both, but in the end I gave in to IQ and kept the K-01.
The Q was great, don't get me wrong- small, cute, and decent IQ, but I didn't need another camera since I already had the K-30, a decent P&S, and wanted to keep the K-01 because it fit all my K-mount lenses w/out adapters.
But if you really like both, just do yourself a favor and keep both of them. (because if you sell one, you know you'll end up missing it and buy another one later)

I vote for both. I have both and will keep both the K-01 and the Q for exactly the reasons you've cited - IQ with the K-01 and portability with the Q.

My other motivation is that I'm trying to get the wife & kids to dive into the more advanced features of photography by using the Q - interchangeable lenses, lots of post-processing options.
