Pentax 1x Gameseeker RD10 questions

Hi All.

I have a couple of questions about this site finder on a Q7. I do not yet have my Q7 so I'm in the dark here.

1) Does the Pentax Gameseeker simply attach to the hotshoe? I understand this is a device for a rifle so I want to make sure that they go together.

2) I am planning to go with this unit to Australia/New Zealand. Looking at the B&H web site I see this is a controlled device for US sale only, no exports. Does that most likely mean that I will not be allowed to take this device or am I going to have to get some sort of special license to take it with me?

Thanks.

Doug

You need to get a scope mount that attaches to your hotshoe.
This is a good source. Photosolve Home > Products > Xtend-a-Sight
Here is a tutorial I wrote on using the red dot with a Q, works same with the Q7.

I am not sure about the restrictions on traveling with it on an airplane.
I tried to google it but nothing pertinent came up.
I think if you left it attached to your camera it might be easier to pass but there is that chance that the agents will confiscate it or worse it if it fits some classification they are looking for.

I was also looking at a night monocular, same restriction.

You dont have to tell the seller you are taking it out of the country.

I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be allowed in here. It doesn't project a laser beam (high power laser pointers are prohibited imports).

I bought a Bushnell red dot finder here in Australia for my Q.

You'll need a hotshoe mount - something like this: Photosolve Home > Products > Xtend-a-Sight

I haven't bought one yet. They are a bit expensive when international shipping is added.

Can you use the same setup with the Pentax Gameseeker HSD20? It seems like a smaller unit

Others that suggested the red dot that I used indicated the open sight style were more difficult to use and set up.

BTW I hear Pentax now has a compact version of the RD10 if size is an issue.

The card she posted from Seattle two weeks ago arrived today. But she had been in NYC for a week so could have bought the red dot from Adorama.
