K-01 reimagined by Leica

Compare camera dimensions side by side

I still like my mirror less Pentax

"Leica does it again! Brings a fresh new design -unorthodox but stunning! Finally something different from the typical black plastic cameras! A beautiful camera with amazing performance! Too bad Pentax could never do such a thing!"
I still think if the K-01 had a Leica dot on it, it would sell even at double the price

Too bad Samsung could never do such a thing...

At least the K-01 was entirely unique and penned by a talented industrial designer, as opposed to "Audi Design" (Volkswagen) taking a Samsung electronics package, and co-opting Apple's "aluminum unibody" laptop construction methods from 2008.

At least is isn't Hasselblad barely concealing a Sony camera with woodgrain and Swarovski crystals.

EDIT: still love my original Q... and I'll bet a red dot could add $2000 to it's resale price!

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Further proof, if it were needed, that the K-01 is an excellent camera.

I do not see much similarity in the cameras.

It appears to have gained some weight. Cheese and bacon will do that.

Well that screen is something to put on the K-02. Having 2 lenses is a charme

Do the top view comparison. The Leica epitomizes the skinny, shiny, hipster plate I find so banal.

So like a runway model - trophy-expensive, buffed body, boringly conventional, looks great - but who could ever do anything real with it?

You're missing the point. Runway models are there to look good and complain when you don't buy them enough shiny things. This camera is there to look good and complain when you give it to your runway model girlfriend so she won't take selfies with your Titanium M-9.

In the top view comparison, the Leica has no lens mounted! It's like me with no belly.
Here is an added 23mm Leica lens.

Sorry, but the Camera Compare tool has no image of the 40mm XS Pentax lens. Too bad Ricoh/Pentax has not followed up with lenses to take advantage of the open space for the mirror. My favorite compact lens on the K-01 is the DA 21mm. If it recessed into the body it would be even more similar to the Leica.

Beautiful it is, but performance is far from being amazing; on the contrary according to most reviews the performance is more on par with that of a common P&S.

Interesting, and how much did Pentax pay Mark Newson to copycat the old Leica? That didn't take a lot of imagination. Was that Leica also designed by Newson?
