What if the Q-S1 looked like this...

Just an exercise...
Original on the left, possibility on the right.
Why? Because that round "button" with no "function" just looks strange.

That looks terrible. Also, the "button" is a finger grip as well as IR receiver for a remote.

But it does have a function. And I use the IR receiver a lot.

I much prefer the ergonomics of the Q7 over the Q-S1. The "button" does not work well for me so a return to the Q-style grip would be an improvement. The "button" and the slight increase in size of the Q-S1 has taken away some of its charm. I'm hoping that with the Q-S1 that the Q series is just going through that awkward puberty stage. Hope the Q-S2 is better.

I didn't know it's an IR receiver. Nevertheless it still looks strange and out of place to me. And not much of a grip, also...

They should have left the grip side of the Q7 alone. It was fine as it was.

I prefer the button than the modded one. I wish I could trade my Q7 for this QS-1 without having to pay extra.

The only difference between the Q7 and Q-S1 AFAIK is AF during movie recording for the Q-S1. Most of the time I use the Q7.

I personally liked the Q7 styling just fine. I have no idea what they were trying to accomplish with the Q-S1.

I think the Q-s1 is one of the nicest looking cameras around.

For me I hated the button grip on the S-1.

I could hold my original Q all day and not even notice it, the S-1 felt so uncomfortable for my hands, it has lots of pointed edges and my fingers would get sore no matter how I held it.

I sent mine back after just a week. I was hoping they would make some type of snap on grip that could attach around the circle, but that never happened.

Yes, it looks nice but in hand it's not that great. The button grip is hard-edged and doesn't provide a secure purchase. And it just feels hollow and with thinner plastics when compared to the Q7 and original Q. It takes good pictures though, so I'm keeping it. One of these days I'll get around to swapping the internals of the Q-S1 and Q. All the visible screws seem to line up so I suspect it will be an easy swap.

Yea I know functionally they are pretty much the same which is why I can't justify getting Q-S1 especially having gotten Q7 at ridiculous low price soon after launch. But I just love the way Q-S1 looks, even my wife approvs until I told her there's no functional difference.

I would truly love to see that. Although the IR sensor in the button grip might be problematic depending how it was wired.
