Pentax Q, Q-7 vs. Auto 110 vs. 110 Instamatic size comparison

The 1980's most compact interchangeable lens subminiature camera system, the Pentax Auto 110 and the 2000's most compact interchangable lens camera system, the Pentax Q (Q-7 here)
Auto 110- AF-130P flash, winder and 18, 24, and 50mm lenses.
Q-7 with 01 Standard, 02 Standard zoom, 06 Telephoto zoom and 08 Wide angle zoom

Auto with AF100P flash, 24mm standard lens. Q with 01 Standard lens and a popular 1980's 110 Instamatic, the ITT magic flash which was my first camera!

Now your tempting me to get a Q and all the lenses. I already have a couple of 110s and for lenses I'm only missing the 18mm pan focus.

Avoid the two Toy lenses, I got them with my original Q set and they are pretty useless IMHO. I sold them and put the money toward the excellent 08 Wide angle zoom, the only Q piece I purchased new.

Actually I find the #3 fish eye and #4 toy 35mm equivalent to be my favorites, and the 35mm equivalent my most used Q lens, and maybe the most used lens of the 60 or so Pentax and Nikon lenses I have. A Q, a 35mm optical finder, and the #4 35m equivalent lens is almost always in a jacket pocket in the city, and back packing and canoe trips--if I am ultra light.

Here is an example with the Q #4 lens

Given how small the camera is it just looks fun, much like my 110s. Since there isn't a good way to hang one of the 110s off the back of my big glass I kind of want to do that with a Q now since there is a K->Q adapter. Running at about the 35mm equivalent of 2600mm and f/4 is rather appealing for some of the shooting I do.

The original Q with its 5.6 to 1 crop factor makes even a 100mm into a super telephoto. I use the original with the Q to K Pentax OE adapter. The Q is also far better with the two toy lenses and the fisheye. Shooting with any other Q lens, the Q-7 is a far better camera. 4.6 to 1 crop, makes the 08 wide angle zoom a great camera & lens substitution for a 16-50 or the like in your kit. Small, light and with really great IQ. My most used Q lens, however, is the 06 70-200 equivalent. Super for out the window at arms length grab shots from a vehicle. Just buy a pile of spare batteries (I like Kastar) because the Q family eats them like crab legs at an all you can eat buffet restaurant.

I have problems with manual focus on my Q-7, but it works very well with native lenses.
