...and the K-7 and K-5 kit lenses were WR.

@Adam, could you please clarify the kit for us? The description at B&H mentions the WR version, while the picture (and your previous comments) suggest non-WR. What's the scoop?

quick. can you tell which one of these kits isn't weather resistant? yep, it's the one that's completely dry.

do you really expect casual consumers (and salespeople) to know that?

The more I see of these the more I think I really want one. I'm totally smitten. I'm definitely saving up my pennies for one of these. Hopefully by the time I get enough they'll have it in red at least? I'm not buying right off the bat though. Can't afford it and besides which I'm a little leery after all the problems with the K5. It will take me a year to get the $$$ for one of these babies anyhow. Definitely a go! Hope Pop Photo doesn't mind but this is my new desktop wallpaper, laugh. Makes you really wonder what the new TOTL camera will be like though looking at what this one can do. I mean this one is the absolute SHIZ, IMHO, so what's the K5 successor going to be like? I predict lots of nice awards for this one. Wow, just wow....

Maybe because Pentax is aching for a class-action suit.

Already on the Newegg.com pre-order page it says "Full, worry-free weather sealing for any weather conditions" under the K30 w 18-55mm(non WR) lens listing.
Why should they get a class action suit filed against them? It's their product and their marketing, they can do whatever they deem proper.

I expect the average consumer/sales rep is the reason warning labels like this exist:

but what does that have to do with anything?

Because calling and selling a Kit as "Fully weather sealed" when it's not is wrong?

Both were available in kits w/o a WR lens.

I agree with you that it should not have the DA L 18-55 lens, but I doubt a class-action lawsuit would be possible. The included documentation would mention the necessity of a WR lens.

Looking at the Newegg listing, it specifies this under the camera body specs. Under the lens specs it makes no mention of WR.

yes. bet the kits in France will all be WR (or body only), where this kind of confusing/misleading marketing is illegal.
I'm sure it's illegal to claim something is weatherproof when it's not. The problem is not in the selling but in the claiming. Why would the French you seem to admire so much require Pentax to include a WR lens (which really isn't "sealed" in any case - there's another fraud to jump on) with every camera kit that has a lens?

I agree that the Newegg text is misleading - no question. That sort of thing is just wrong. And probably an error from going too fast - an unfortunately common Internet trend. But I don't get the nanny state attitude that says Pentax must box K30s with WR or sealed lenses if the marketing collateral is worded in such a way that it meets the kit being marketed - sealed camera with standard lens, for example.

I agree with you that the advertising and promotional material simply must match the goods being sold. But that's not unique to France, is it?
