Why no kit with the 18-55 WR?

So the new K30 looks pretty awesome to me. If I didn't already own a K-5, I'd probably be ready to buy one. But why oh why don't they have a kit with the 18-55 WR lens? If you want a WR kit, you have to buy the $1199 kit with the 18-135mm lens. It would seem like an easy thing to do to market this as a cheap way to get a WR kit. Maybe it's only in the US? As that French ad showed the camera with the WR lens.

I can imagine a great commercial to emphasize this. Pentax shooter with a K30 shooting in the rain, while Canon, Nikon, and Sony shooters run indoors.

Oh, or maybe an entry level model will have weather seals and be sold with the 18-55WR? This would create a cheaper tier for a WR kit than the K30.

My thinking is that Pentax wants to make the extra $100

Because Pentax is in the business of making money. You want a WR 18-55? That's $200.

Maybe because Pentax is aching for a class-action suit.

Already on the Newegg.com pre-order page it says "Full, worry-free weather sealing for any weather conditions" under the K30 w 18-55mm(non WR) lens listing.

The description says it has a WR, but the picture is with the DA L.

at B&H, it also shows the pic of DAL
but if you check what's in the box, it lists as WR DA

Bundling with a DA-L is to have a banner price. Then the bait and switch upsell takes place at the retailer when "for just an extra $100 you can get the WR version".

They weren't marketed as being WR out-of-the-box like the K30 is. Already, that NewEgg.com listing is patently false.

??? Why not just get the camera body only and buy the 18-55 WR separately? Does Pentax have to waste cardboard putting both in a single box put the two in the same box in order for that to be a valid option?

k30 with 18-135 WR lens is priced at $1200 at B&H
1200-850=350
that is 170 cheaper than buying the lens alone (520 at B&H)...

I think it is a good way to bring new people to Pentax.

yes. bet the kits in France will all be WR (or body only), where this kind of confusing/misleading marketing is illegal.

The lack of an 18-55mm WR lens kit in the US is worrying...
