So, all in all, this thing looks pretty cool. But I couldn't tell if the release was just confusing, or if it only has 30fps at Full HD. It says that it has 60/50/30/25/24 at 720p, and I can understand why it wouldn't have 60/50 at 1080p, since that's a bitrate thing. But why in the world would it not have 25/24 at 1080p? If it can pipe 30fps at 1080p, than it can handle 25 and 24. I hope I just misunderstood the press release. I would boggle my mind in unfathomable ways if they left out 1080p/24.

Is there a logical reason why they would have 60 fps at HD and not at VGA?

There is an Q&A thread on DPReview set up by JohnCPentax.

In that thread he says the video is using h.264 compression.

I just came across this from DP Review and wondered if that has been discussed here, and if not, what are the implications:

Pentax K-30 Hands-on Preview: Digital Photography Review

"The other oddity is that, while the K-30 offers the very fashionable 'focus peaking' manual focus aid that highlights high-contrast edges, it can't do so while shooting video. And, while part of its current popularity comes from its use for focusing manual focus lenses on mirrorless cameras, its original purpose (at which it excels), is focusing in video. Losing a key focus aid, just when you need it is a perverse limitation, to say the least."
