P.S. I don't know if shooting without the lens on is a fair way to judge the K-30's shutter sound or not, but those of you with a K-r and/or a K-5 might be able to make a rough comparison.

So far only the link here name those large buffers, if we look at release data from USA and EU we see different numbers so it seems that odds are stack against you sadly

Oh well. I was just trying to be an optimist for once. Besides, I'm certainly not experienced enough to contradict either OGL or you on this sort of issue.

Nothing to do with experience just stating the fact here, what will be the truth we will surely see in reviews.

Frames Per Second and Auto-Focus

The point of the first video is obviously how many frames per second the K-30 can shoot, and for how long it can continue shooting at that speed. I think the point of the second video is the K-30's auto-focus speed.

P.S. In the first video, how loud does the K-30's shutter sound to those of you who own a K-5 and/or a K-r? Is it pretty loud? The hard-surfaces in these videos may be contributing to its loudness.

It does sound loud, but no idea, wheater it is the videorecording, or really a loud shutter. Doesn't sound like K-5 shutter.

sounds like the K-x shutter, but maybe a little more "acute" (i dunno if it's the right word. i mean opposite of bass).

I suspect that the K30 is in JPEG mode; not in RAW.

It is not as loud though as the Hasselblad being focused on in the other video, and has a faster frame rate.

This is my own K-5:

Different recording, but not so loud as K-30 I guess.

I found this one:

I counted 17 before slowdown. more than enough for me.

Yes, and, not counting the noise, a "rapid-fire" camera also serves a remotely similar purpose to a machine gun: By that, I mean there is no need to be very precise when your "modern piece of technology" can take so many shots in such a short period of time. It's not like in the old days, when I had to take a precisely timed shot and just hope I was successful.

I'm only guessing, but the hard countertop on which the K-30 is resting may be magnifying the sound a little. The noise may be even more noticeable since that room may be composed entirely of hard surfaces, with nothing to muffle the sound. The K-30 may be just a tiny bit quieter when held in our hands, especially outdoors. I am only guessing about this, of course. For all I know, the K-30 may be relatively noisy in all settings.

Your K-5 is definitely quiet! I wonder if the microphone in the camera that filmed your video had any affect the sound. Or is that how quiet the K-5 is to your own ears also?

It would be interesting to know how your K-5 sounds if you were to set it on a hard countertop in a room that has a bit of an echo. You wouldn't have to film it. You could just try it and tell us what you think.

I agree. I don't know what I would even want to photograph that would require me to shoot multiple frames per second. My sports photography days are behind me. I can barely stand sports anymore. Nor am I interested in photographing birds. The vast majority of the birds around here, anyway, are sparrows, robins and blackbirds. Some mourning doves have been living in a tree in my yard for the past three years, but I certainly wouldn't need 6 frames per second in order to photograph them.

Update on the FPS Video

Update. I'm sure I'm not imagining this. Yesterday this video was 13 seconds long, and I definitely heard the shutter start to slow down around the ten- or eleven-second mark. Today the video is only nine or ten seconds long***, and I do not hear the shutter slow down at all. I wonder why the original poster decided to do this.

[***The video is initially listed as being ten seconds long (sometimes nine seconds), but then it drops to nine seconds as soon as the video starts playing.]
