"As for image quality, the K-30 is about on par to K-5, which is to be expected because the image sensor is very similar to the one in that camera. In fact, the K-30's sensor is exactly the same as the one in the new, Marc Newsom-designed Pentax K-01 compact system camera, which is a tweaked version of the chip in the K-5."

I'm worried that the sensor is of lower ISO performance by one stop compared with K5, according to the samples from other sources.

The K5 has an expanded ISO range from 80 to 52600. Probably to differentiate models, I suspect that they dropped at least the 80 from the K-01 and K30. I would not be too concerned, and if you are - just purchase the K5.

There are slight trade offs here - The K-01 and K30 I suspect has focus peaking and the K5 since it is going end of life does not.

I would suspect that the K5 replacement would have all the bells and whistles. So, look at it this way - you have options!!

K30 and K-01 (MILC) are mid-range cameras. K5 (and its replacement) are high-end cameras, though the k30 pushes the envelope a bit.

May be effect of 12bit RAW (K-01 & K-30) vs 14bit RAW (K-5). I guess, this has impact on dynamic range, too.
