Not ideal, but...IT WORKS and WORKS GOOD...

It's first real tracking AF from Pentax....I want in new pro camera more AF points. At least 28.

Which means that new, price-fixing Pentax are probably praying to every god in the pantheon that the $1500 Nikon D600 rumours aren't true

well, pentax dslr usually drop price a lot faster than canon and nikon
price of k-5 is higher than d7000 and a lot higher than 60d when first released
but look at what happen now..same as 60d and 200 less expensive than d7000

On the other hand, I hope this isn't true with K-30, 'cause then Pentax would fare better.

But, on the other hand.. well, I'm *really* hoping this is the case since I really, really want that K-30 + 18-135 WR kit but I haven't the foggiest where to get that kind of money.

Currently, I'm hoping that someone buys that and gets disappointed by some feature I don't really care about (for example video, I never really use that) and sells it for substantially less than it costs from a store. The kit goes for ~1100 (~$1350) around here. I don't have the slightest possibility to get that together in the near future.

Turning off the LCD

One thing I found on my K-30 is that the LCD is always on (until I press the shutter buttom). Could you please let me know the menu setting to turn off the LCD so that I can bring that up only when I press the menu, info or play buttons?

With K-01 it is under the info-button, pressing it twice and then make a choice.

Yes, if I press the "Info" button multiple times, I get the option to turn off the LCD display.

Thanks.

I just spent the day taking flights shots of birds with the K5 and this looks to be a huge improvement. Right now my best option is to just press the shutter and rapid-fire and hope and prey one is sharp.

I simply can't wait to see how this compares to the K-5 in terms of tracking performance and low-light speed...

Neither sequences are very convincing to be honest, first has at least 2 with missed focus even with pretty deep DOF, and the second has nothing else in frame and even then it missed on 1 or 2. I appreciate the examples posted, but nothing there makes me a K-30 AF believer just yet.

Some see the glass half full, some see it half empty. Shots from an inexperienced photographer shooting a moving object with less than a stellar lens. I'm going with "things are looking encouraging". Some people want "convincing" some just collect evidence. This is evidence of improvement. Not conclusive evidence, but evidence. At this point no one would be convinced of anything. That's not the point.

I want to see the K-30 shooting something similar to the old 'sprinter running towards the camera' AF torture test. That would be fun.

If you can do a test with the subject running towards the camera that would be very telling. TIA
