Definitive Ruling on K-30 Shutter Sound?

Can the new K-30 owners comment on the shutter sound compared to the K-r and the K-5? I have the K-r and definitely want my next model to have a much quieter shutter.

Thanks.

I'll be at a dealer today and hopefully I can answer your question if no one else does.

The guy from Pentax that was answering questions at dpreview said it (the K-30) uses the same shutter unit as the K-r

I have bought it at B&H just the day it came out. I have a K5 also, and the K-30 shutter sound is way more noticeable, albeit not annoying to me at all. It was actually the first thing I noticed. The second was that the autofocus is really much more precise on each of the lenses I have, compared to the K5. But that's off topic I guess.

If one must go off topic, this is the very best way to do so.

Might have the same shutter on it, but the soud is mostly from the mirror, not the shuttter. And even if it turns out to have the same mirror on it, the difference in body construction quality(eg, the weather seals) could easily affect the sound.

Ideally, you want someone who can hear back to back the K-5, either the K-r or K-x, and the K200D, which is in between those two extremes and the most similar model to the K-30 in build.

Well I went to B&H to check this out, but it turns out they don't have a floor model yet. Hooray.

I'd be grateful if someone with a K-5 and a K-30 posted a brief video comparing the shutter / mirror sounds.

From what I recall from handling the pre-production model during a Pentax outing, it was in-between a K5 and Kr.

Right. Whch is why a simple comparison against the K-5 only won't help much. We all know it is louder. You also want to compare against the K-r or K-x, so people can get a sense of where it stands between those two extremes.

Very good point. I know what my k-r sounds like (boy, do I!) so a video comparing a K-r and K-5 to the K-30 would help a great deal. Of course, if there were a single store in my state that carried Pentax DSLRs, I could compare myself.

From what my wife tells me about the price of electronics in Brazil, you wouldn't want to buy it from a store in Brazil even if you could find one. When her parents go back to Brazil for a visit each year, her dad always goes with a suitcase full of electronics for friends and family.

I didn't have an opportunity to take a video, but I did have a chance to take a few shots with various different cameras including the K-30 at the Pentax road show stop hee on Denver this evening. The news isn't as good as I'd have hoped. The shutter is only slightly quieter than the K-r, and quite a bit louder than the K200D,. Certainly any of these are *much* louder than the K-5, but really, the K200D is still the middle man, with the K-r and K-30 being very close to each other. What I didn't have for comparison was a K-x or K100D. I had assumed the K-r was similar the the K-x, but actually, the K-r was quieter than I expected - not as much louder than my K200D as I remember the K-x being when I have heard them back to back.
