RE: That LED 'bloom' - its from the way CMOS sensors are made. You basically can't avoid it as its prevalent across most (maybe all?) brands. The old camera that didn't do it either didn't have a CMOS sensor (probably was CCD), or the lights weren't true LEDs that it was shooting.

Basically the rough explanation is LED light is 'pure' light, as in its pure blue, or pure red, etc, so when the sensor picks it up it translates it as such and you lose the other colors that the human eye is able to pick up.

Taken with a Sigma XQ Filtermatic 28mm, using the built in LB 180 filter. What a fun lens!

k-30 vs a37?
I've had a Sony a35 - same camera just earlier model, sold it and forgot . K-30 -- all the way, and your dark sky photos will be less noisier. The semi-transparent fixed mirror doesn't improve IQ at all. The only Sony camera I would go for is new A7, but it is $2500 .

A couple from the Tetons...

Here's a couple from my 51-day road trip this past fall. These two were taken October 15th in the Tetons. The park was closed because of the nimrods in DC, but I stopped at every pull-off spot I could and shot from the main road...I was happy to find the famous "Ansel Adams Shot" spot at the Snake River Overlook was accessible. Of course, I didn't have the benefit of a Pontiac station wagon to stand on, like he did...

It's warm today in Fairbanks, making me think of spring...

And summer...

Even if this is still closer to reality...

Nice photos, but define "warm" for you guys. We're at 6F right now on the 38th parallel.
