Memorial Day weekend 2014 in U.S.

It was a brutal winter on Lake Superior. Normally all the ice on the Lake is gone by April. We are now in June and there is still ice in the water. The first photo was taken on May 24th near our lake side cottage. The air temperature off the land was around 80F / 27C, but if the wind turned to come off the water the temperature almost instantly fell to 60F / 15C.

First photo taken with my Nikon Coolpix P7100 - the last one of this line that includes an optical viewfinder. It is a semi-pocketable advanced P&S.

Okay, I know what this thread is about .... The second was taken with my K-30 and 18-135 WR on May 25th about a half-mile / 1km from the first photo.

I pack the P7100 when I am flying and have too much business equipment to squeeze in a dSLR. I also have a scuba-rated underwater case for the P7100. I could afford that case, but I cannot afford a comparable case for my K-30.

OutOfCamJpg

I used the "naturral" jpg profile with fine sharpness and its much better than the "bright" - mainly the orange

O-GPS1 Astrotracer

Greetings everyone,

Had another go with the astrotracer last weekend when camping on the shore of Lake Champlain NY. Had the opportunity to try my new Tokina AT-X 828 80-200 f/2.8 (manual focus). I'm a bit disapointed by it. CA not as bad as I expected but star images are far from being point like. But I cannot really complain since this is a 220$ lens and not a 2200$.

1- M8-M20 6 X 20 s iso 2000 with Tokina @ 200 f/2.8

2- Antares - M4 and some of rho Ophiucus nebulosity 6 X 30s iso 2000 with Tokina @ 200 f/4.0

3- The Milky Way over Lake Champlain NY. Burlington VT is on the horizon. 2 min with 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 AL WR @ 18 mm f/3.5

4- The Lion and Coma Berenices setting in the West. 1 min with 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 AL WR @ 18 mm f/3.5

Great pics. There's a little coma in the first one - but not in the second, where you've stopped down. Have you tried longer exposures using the astrotracer? I've managed two minutes (at f/5.6) with my 135mm without trailing:

M42 in Orion (with starbursts) by -Occasionally Focused-

(That's a single exposure, btw.)

I particularly like that Milky Way over Lake Champlain; the terrestrial light/lights somehow add to it.
