Impromptu night shots

I was chauffeuring some kids on an evening a few weeks ago and had some time to kill while they were doing their kid thing, so I went to a little bay nearby and took some pictures, a few of which turned out really well, I think. It was an hour or two after sundown and I didn't have a tripod with me, so I rested the camera on a low seawall and propped the lens up with the lens cap on top of my wallet. Both shots are 25-second exposures with the 18-135 WR.

You did good! Using your ingenuity to make-shift what you needed to get a good shot.

I've been to Maunalua Bay, but it has been a number of years. At first glance I thought this was a shot from somewhere near the airport over to Diamond Head. Oh well, at least I knew the camera was aimed in an easterly direction. My wife has at least 3 generations of cousins in Pearl City and Ewa, with another branch over on Maui.

Very nice shots. I like to think I would never run out of photographic opportunities in Hawaii, but folks say the same about this area and frankly there are days when nothing new grabs my attention. (We too live on an island, but it is a bit different when you just have to drive across a bridge...)

Thanks, Jim. The supply of things to shoot really is infinite. The changes in the view from my apartment lanai alone, light and clouds and rain and whatnot, offer lots of good shots without requiring much more than getting out of bed. If I shot everything that presents itself when I'm out and about, I would never actually arrive anywhere. As it is, most of my pictures are basically snapshots.

I had a dream once that I took a train from here to Paris, but yes, it's different being 2500 miles from anywhere.
