My first moon photo with my K30. No tripod, just using my knee as a brace.

Try using a higher ISO to allow you a faster shutter speed. At ISO 800 you'll get a shutter speed of 1/800 which will easily give you a shake free image, just as good as you would using a tripod. The loss of quality (more noise) at ISO800 is barely noticeable but will give you a huge advantage in higher shutter speed. Stopping down a bit more (say F8) will probably also get you a slightly sharper image, even if at the expense of some shutter speed.

Thanks! I am new at this and appreciate any and all suggestions.
This was my first attempt with any camera to photograph the moon and used several different settings before I finally had any success. But I obviously need more work.

Thanks again, I will try your suggestions on the next clear night, even if it's not a full moon.

If you really want to get good photos of the moon, get a tripod and wireless remote and shoot at ISO 100 in aperture priority. If you want to get better photos of the moon, put something else in the foreground and use the moon as the background. And remember, he longer the lens the larger the moon.

Been having fun with the K-30. Its almost as if it was designed for my vintage lenses.

Great fog photos, both of you!

Here's a portrait from a little while back... A 50 2.8 Macro was the lens.
