Onandanga Caves here in Missouri (these were handheld, but they offer once a month photography tours which you can set up your tripods and take as long as you want...i am really interested in that. All my shots had to be at ISO 6400).

Received a request from Getty Images to licence one of my photos. But the photo is quite average (don't know why they want it?) So I thought I would go out and try and improve on it. The original was just a single shot with an FA77. Was blown out and poorly framed. This is a (+/-3) bracketed 3 shot panorama using 18-135 at 100mm. Still not 100% happy but at least it isn't blown out this time. A tough subject that has lights bright enough to give an orange glow to the night sky to my city, which starts just behind and to the left of where I am standing here.

Click here!!!!! Bigger is definitely better with this image

K30 meets Meyer-Optik 300mm f4

Today I wrestled with this best of a lens. It has much going for it, however, I will have to learn how to tame the CA in certain situations.

The kids at hockey today. The Meyer-Optik 300mm was a good performer.

Ha yes good pick up.

I was using a Meyer-Optik Gorlitz 300mm f4 with M42 mount. While using it I was flipping between a 2X teleconverter and none.

The 600mm pops up in the exif because I probably had the 2X converter on, although this is manually entered every time one changes lenses and as such I may have been lazy.

Ill run some tests tomorrow re K01 vs K30 with and without the converter.

I wonder why anyone would? A grip is about the only benefit I can see.

Mark, may I suggest an experiment and ask you to report back? Try taking two shots of the same subject. For the first one, go ahead and use your 2X TC. For the second use the same lens, but without the TC and crop to match the same framing as the first shot.

In addition to not losing the light through the TC, I am willing to bet the image quality of the cropped shot is just as good if not better than the shot with the TC. I'd like to see if I am right or wrong.

There are benefits which have been discussed extensively.
But if the choice is a K-5IIs body only or a K-30 with a limited lens, that would be really hard choice.
