Picked up my camera from the store yesterday. Unfeasibly excited.

Headed up into town today to start practicing using it. Lucked out and stumbled on a Vintage Clothing Fair.

Vintage Fair - a set on Flickr

Really pleased with these as my first outing. I haven't got into the depths of the book yet and so just stuck to auto. Impressed with the colour that has been achieved in circumstances, and the quality at quite high iso. There were moments where I could see great potential for manual focus between racks but will walk before I run! Never used anything other than a compact before. Really looking forward to learning the ropes on the K30. Must read guide manual but just want to play with it!

First post but though since there are a lot of cat photos, I would put mine taken today up.
Just a little bit close to him.

Shot with Sigma 150-500 and Pentax 18-135WR.

All shot in RAW and processed in Lightroom.

First and even more so the third photo are a good demonstration of the K-30's excellent dynamic range and the benefits of shooting in raw.

The robin in the first photo was in the shade against a very bright sun lit background. I reduced the exposure just enough to prevent the background being blown out but this made the bird a dark silhouette. However, lifting the shadows in post processing brought out an unexpectedly good level of detail.

In the third photo the sun was very bright and I was shooting straight into it so I had to wind the exposure way down - F11, 1/3200, ISO100 - which resulted in the foreground being totally black. However once again processing the raw file easily brought out lots of beautiful detail from what initially appeared as total darkness.

The lizard was shot with the Sigma 150-500 which I have unexpectedly found to be a very useful macro lens of sorts for certain sitautions. It allows me to take shots of creatures from a distance that does not disturb them. Although it only gets 1:4 magnification I find that its excellent sharpness and very accurate auto focus lets me crop significantly without losing much in the way of image quality.

(note that although there are some artifacts in the dark areas of some photos these are only due to the compression I used in uploading - they do not appear in the full sized images)

HEY CONGRATS TO ME... Today... well, yesterday my second granddaughter was born as a pre birthday present to...MEEEEEE... Today, the 26th is my birthday.... Here is just a couple of shots. Check the Flika for more.

This first one I was just plainly bored and went into the hospital rooms bathroom and this photo was the result of it. lol

Self portrait type of photograph.

My second granddaughter Athena Marie.

First ounce of anything outside the womb, hence how red she became as she was huffing and puffing with this new way of eating/drinking.

Thanks!

BTW Went to the parking garage at the hospital and was shooting the environment outside, since it was snowy. The security guy came up to ask me and my father in law if we had permission to shoot the hospital. I was like "I didn't know we needed one! Just shooting the Museum Park across the street!" Sorry, and we started walking towards the entrances.

For a moment there the guard looked like if he was going to approach me so I can show him whatever, but he hesitated as I let the strap fall and grabbed the grip one handed as if the K-30 was a clubbing object. He looked down, said something, got in his car, went around for another pass and left. I thought it was funny for some reason. I get the privacy issues inside a hospital, but outside? well, maybe. thought I would share.

Now I did take a shot or two at a building that meet another at a interesting angle.

Congrats. You'd have to have grandchildren to realize just how special and precious they really are.
