Could be the magnets that hold the sensor in place, even if SR is not activated.

Finger, there definitely is some noise coming from the camera at all times ... possibly due to the SR system, but the noise is much worse when Live View is activated. Maybe it has something to do with the mechanism that holds the mirror up.
Actually I just checked that and it makes a very similar sound while the mirror is locked up during the 2s timer mode. So I reckon that's what the washing machine sound is ... mirror lock-up.

If it beeps when focus is locked, the beep will be picked up by the microphone, which is something you definitely don't want.

That's true.
However, there should at least be a visual indication of where the focus point is when refocusing during video. After all, the Live view is on all the time when recording video. I am astounded that there is not.

I agree with you. Visual indication, yes. Audible indication, no. Here's one request to send Pentax for a firmware update.

The T4i - 650D - Canon seems to be more aimed at the family / recreation user for video.... It has stereo audio in the camera, and a socket for a better external mic. Video has continuous AF, and they have also introduced "silent focusing" lenses to go with that - however, those seem to be not at all cheap. (The 650D also has Timer function for AEB on tripod - and Timer + IS + AEB hand-held - like my Bridge cameras - unlike the K30.)

I've tried the K30 video with a Tak 55mm f/1.8 - and the video itself, with that, is really good....! Much better than my Fuji HS10 in 1080 or 720 - though it doesn't have the Fuji's excellent 640 x 480 120fps quarter-speed playback slow-motion.

Until I can get a better external unit, I'll use my Canon SX10 for the audio, and using a clicker to sync, edit-in later. The SX10 records audio-only, WAV at 11k / 22k / 44k - and has mic levels, meter, and a wind-filter... All of which would have gone nicely in the K30 - maybe for the K31 or whatever's next...

Regards, Dave.
