That lens is a great companion to your K-30 No need to worry about a drizzle and enough reach and flexibility for a travel lens.

I can also recommend the DAL 55-300mm lens for longer reach. No WR but a good compliment to the 18-135mm, especially if you are on a budget. (I can't afford the DA* 60-250mm hehe)
With those two or only the 18-135mm your pretty set for travelling.
Thanks! I bought the K30 with the kit 18-55, as that was what I could afford. The 18-135 may be out of my reach for a bit, and I'll look into the DA 55-300. I do get daunted by the amount to learn

Either choice is good re. the lenses, I thin kit really comes down to what you want to photograph, and the reach you need. My next lens is going to be the 50-200 WR (although I do need something to replace my old 100-300), after that I only want to get DA*s, if possible. Also want to get some decent in the +300 range... ugh, think I need to win a lottery or two!

From my experience, you never stop learning in photography, I find there is always some new idea, process or technique that comes along, that teaches me something new.

If cost wasn't a factor we'd all be loaded up with star lenses and limiteds. Everyone has their own budget, preferences, and priorities.

I've been trying to save money by looking for good deals on used lenses here on the forums and on eBay. Most people seem to take very good care of their lenses so the used part doesn't bother me much, especially when there are usually detailed pics and descriptions included of the equipment for sale. For instance, Amazon sells the DA 55-300 for $370 and I was able to get mine for $250. Or you can check out old manual focus lenses that don't cost much. You can learn a lot from an old 50mm prime for very little. Pentax-A F/2.0's go for around $30 on eBay.

Last Saturday I followed my colleague to the Pentax store. He bought 3 K-30s. 1 white and 2 blue. All with 18-135 WR. Now I have helped/ influenced total 6 K-30 sales to my friends :-)

Tbh....I haven't had enough time to play with it. On paper, it's supposed to be better, but it will be a while before I can really say either way. I will admit already though that I am on the fence about the front dial. It's nice to have, but I keep hitting it instead of the on/off switch......lol

Got my K-30 on Friday, Henry's have them on sale for less than US price, also cheaper with a lens than without!

I traded the kit lens in straight away as I didn't need it, so got $25.00 back!

Having fun with it, a big learning curve from the K200d though.

Sold my K-5 with grip to get a practically brand new black K-30 from a service member stationed in Japan. I got it mainly for the focus peaking....something I am extremely addicted to since I have a K-01!

Got a blue K-30 on Saturday, purchased from the PF marketplace. I really wanted white but this blue one was new for $475! Super deal! I'm finding focus peaking isn't quite as nice as I wanted it to be...I'd like it if the white on the edges was bolder. I must be doing something wrong in low light or have high expectations, because my low light photos don't turn out as good as examples I've seen on PF (or are they just highly denoised?).

Despite those two things, I'm pleased with finally having a K-30! (I remember having some gripes about my K200D when I first got it but now I make it do wonders)
