Hands-On K-30 Field Test Video

Hey everyone,

I just finished editing this K-30 field test video. We abuse the camera while rafting down the Bow River. It holds up very well, and as Chris says repeatedly, the K-30 is easily the best camera at its price point right now. It was a nice change after just finishing a video on the very underwhelming Canon T4i.

Let me know what you think and hit me with any questions you may have!

Cheers,
Jordan @ TCSTV

Overall, a very positive review. He pointed out a few negatives, at least negatives for him, related to the aesthetics. But overall, he said it was a great camera for the price and "dominated" the Canon t4i. The only problem is that it now extends my K5 vs. k30 argument re: my soon-to-be purchased camera.

Nice comprehensive review from my favourite camera store. Needs more Lada though.

Yeah the looks a subjective thing, I love it but I can see your point about the bandaid haha.

Great review, I'm super pleased with my camera and I think your review pretty well reflects my feelings. There have been complaints about recorded audio quality, but from the stuff in your review its perfectly adequate for casual use.

Cheers

Thats a good review. I think they're all fair comments, and you compare properly against the competition.

But dear god, that river was flowing fast! You guys are nuts!

Nice review. Was the video/audio for the whole thing shot with the K-30?

Some portions are annotated wish 'shot by k-30' so I expect some other gear is in play.
I love the constant "relax Sony fans"

The K-30's mirror certainly doesn't sound too loud in this video. It could be the environment in which the cameraman is standing; however, his mouth is the same distance from the microphone as the camera, yet his voice doesn't sound muted at all.

The video was shot on the Sony VG20 with a Pentax DA* 16-50. I would have preferred to shoot on the Pentax, but we only recieved one camera for testing. Only the indicated portion was shot on the K-30.

The mirror sound was untouched, it is pretty quiet.

Here's a blog post on the shoot, hopefully it will answer a few more questions:

Wait what? How do you control aperture with the DA*16-50? And why did you select the 16-50 to shoot with, out of curiousity?
