Since Pentax doesn't uses metal for the outer skin anymore, I prefer non-glossy boring black. I feel less conspicuous.

The K-7, K-5, and K-5 II all have metal bodies.

Let me rephrase that, Pentax doesn't use use any exposed metal on the outer skin. (not counting the shoe) It's all coated, even on the above metal chassis bodies. Through the 80's many Pentax bodies used a satin finish stainless steel in non-gripping areas.

I don't think that Pentax is unique in that regard. Other than my Olympus PEN, I can't think of many consumer interchangeables that have a bare metal body; certainly no DSLR's.

For lack of an example otherwise, I agree. It's why I choose boring satin black. Kitchen decor has moved to black with exposed satin stainless steel - maybe dSLRs will someday return to this classy retro look.

Well, after seriously considering the blue, white and red, I went with black. I thought I would already stand out enough as a newbie, so I did not want to add to that. Plus, the black one was actually the cheapest. I do like the huge range of colors available, it makes the K-30 a bit unique compared to the other brands.

My father got a white one - it's ultra-sexy! So sad they were absent in a store when I bought my boring black one...

Can't beat the white. I love it. Here's mine with the Sigma 85mm 1.4:

I just pulled the trigger on a white body this morning. White is good up here at 6000' where the sun can heat up dark things unmercifully. Both my cars are white! ;-)

( Got to love Amazon.com Prime with 1 day shipping for $4 ! )

Mine is blood red. I'm not a big fan of anything red but it seems like red K-30 bodies and kits are cheaper than the other colors. I would have preferred white to cope with the desert heat and sun.

I haven't seen many pictures of the red or the crystal black, so thanks for sharing. Very cool looking.
