Second camera... is the K-30s AF really better than the K-5s?

I've got a wedding coming up and I need a second camera to shoot with, but I'm debating whether to get another K-5 or K-30. Basically, it comes to AF. If the AF in the K-30 is better than the K-5 then I'd pick one up...

But then again, I'm contemplating picking up a D700 as my second body.

Hmm... What do you think?

Yes, it's better.

Or get the D700.

If you have the money to maintain two systems go for the D700. It's a great camera.

Nop, I would still get the k-30 (not D700) as it is a great kit for travelling after you are done with the wedding shots.

if AF is your primary concern, d700 is your answer. otherwise, a second k-5 for consistency

I did get K-30 and actually after 1000 photos I prefer to use it over K-5.
K-30 is lighter, smaller, takes AA's ( with adaptor), much faster and precise AF and MF confirmation, much faster Pentax lens correction in the body,
much faster processing and writing into SD card, deeper grip ( feels more secured over K-5, although I use K-5 usually with battery grip and AA's) and
today I have discovered that K-30 has motion sensor build inside, can wake up the camera from standby by just picking it up + all other LV improvements ( which I do not use as yet).

Wow that is so cool! You don't have to wake the camera after a period of non use....

Is there a custom setting for this? My K30 is quite slow to respond from standby.

the K-30 will only wake up on pick up within chosen "Auto Power Off" time.
Mine is set to 3min, so it would wake up on pick up within 3 min , after that all normall rules apply ( as on K-x,K-7,K-5)
I could not see anything about it in the Manual or Menues

Hello, I find this quite an interesting feature on the K-30, but I couldn't get it to work. So I just tried to get my K-30 to wake up just by moving it / picking it up... but nothing happens, I'd still need to press a (random) buttom.

Just like yours, mine is also set to 3 min auto off. Any idea why this is not working on my K-30? Thanks in advance.

yes it is quite cool, I discovered it today purely by chance.
my battery is charging and still waiting for AA adapter ( on backorder ) so can not do not much tonight.
were you picking up your camera within 3min after last activity with it?

Yes. I turned it on, pressed a random button, the info screen appeared, then I put it on the table and waited a few seconds until the screen had turned off (about 20-30 seconds I guess, it was within the 3 min auto off time span), then I picked it up again, even shaked it... but nothing happened. I expected the screen to come back to life just by moving it or did I maybe misunderstand something here?

I have never noticed this happen either. I always have to press a button to get mine to wake up. Are you sure you didn't accidentally press a button when you picked the camera up, i_trax? If this is a feature, it would be kind of cool, although it seems like your camera would be on all the time if you are out walking with it and it's moving around as you walk.

Your English is excellent (at least as far as your comment goes). I only saw one minor error, and that one is completely understandable/forgivable.

I suspect if this was a feature we would have heard about it officially. I will try at home, but I don't think this happens with my K-30.
