Screen on while shooting

Why doesn't the k30 have a senser to detect that your face is up against the camera? Is this something Pentax have never done? Upgrading from a Nikon D60 this camera is tri-fold better, but it t's me off when I'm in low light and I have the screen on and I'm un able to see through the view finder until I click the shutter to focus. Is there any setting to fix this? or is this the reason pentaxians love the top lcd screen? I've never got to use one but I can see its use now.

You should be able to turn the review off in one of the menus.

I always have the instant review turned off. It makes for quicker shooting and means your control wheels stay as aperture etc, not zoom into picture. If I want to review a shot, I press the play button.

He is not talking about the instant review, I believe, he is talking about the fact that the illuminated screen makes it very difficult to use the viewfinder at night, thanks LeDave for the info on how to turn that off! Though it is INFO 2x and then scroll 2x to the right to turn off the display.

So ... if I don't want this status screen, I have to do this five-button-press dance every time I turn the camera on? Surely there's a way to disable that?!?

Go to MENU > "Camera icon" 4 > Memory > Page 2
Turn "Shooting Info Display Memory" on.

Now the camera should remember your display settings, that is your choice between Status, Level, Off or GPS, between sessions.
