Shooting Black & White

I have had my K-30 for a few weeks now and its pretty awesome. Tonight I was playing around with some of the shooting modes and shot in Black and White. However, when I downloaded memory card to iPhoto, the B&W images were not...they all came out in color. I checked preview on camera before downloading and they looked the way I wanted. What did I do wrong?

Are you shooting in raw? Not a K-30 owner but shooting in raw it should retain the original colour, just interpret it to black and white and export in black and white when you convert it to JPG. Does that make sense?

I am shooting in raw. So what you're saying is that in raw, the export retains the color and then I have to return to B&W in my software after export? If that is the case, then I understand. So does that mean if I shoot in JPEG and B&W, the B&W would export to iPhoto and would not retain the original color? Thanks again!

RAW is like the owrd suggest the RAW data of the sensor so it's not edited or altered in anway, that means that if you've a colour sensor inside your camera that the RAW will always be coloured.

JPEG is processed and so if you set the camera to B&W and the JPEGS are B&W they will remain B&W regardless.

What you see on the back of the camera when shooting RAW is the JPEG preview inside the RAW file and that JPEG preview does follow the settings.
