New K30 seems to have high amounts of noise?

Hello.. I'm new to Pentax. Just purchased K30. Really love the camera - how it feels and features of coarse but I'm having issues w/ what appears to me to have very high amounts of noise - even at ISO 400 or even 800. 3200 to me is unacceptable. Can anyone take a quick look at these snaps (using cheap kit lens, this shouldn't have anything to do w/ noise) and let me know if this is normal or am I doing something wrong? Thanks

I've added raw/converted to jpeg w/ no editing for both old canon 30d and new K30.

EDIT: You forgot to include the K30 sample, but I found it on your smugmug profile.

Canon 30D!i=2091629094&k=2tZZ34Q&lb=1&s=A

Pentax K30!i=2091631446&k=9FKBBfK

The problem is, the colors are totally off. Each camera dealt with the white balance differently (the Canon didn't attempted to correct for tungsten), so you can see more artifacts on the K30 because of the color cast. The K30 is underexposed too (f/5.6 instead of f/4, both shot at 1/20 ISO 1600). I guess you shot the Canon first, then tried to dial the same settings on K30 in M mode, but the kit lens only goes to f/5.6?

Redo the test setting both for the correct AWB (either tungsten or daylight) and same aperture. Noise should be equivalent.

Your Pentax pic is underexposed by a stop, that's why it seems worse. The less light there is, the more of the noise you will see. So, if you re-shot the test at F4 rather than F5.6, the results should once again be acceptable.

ISO 8000 f3.2 1/25 only some cropping but I'am sure it'll cleanup with a bit of PP'ing.
