Does the K-r AA battery holder works on K30?

Anybody tried it?

They are exactly the same D-BH109 unit. Should work fine.

Yes, i purchased my k30 and 18-135mm kit from Singapore and added the AA battery adapter. The adapter came shipped inside the kit box and was labelled "KR". Works prfectly with my Eneloops.

It works.........

However, on my K-30 many times it won't turn on using the AA's. I have to unhook the latch and reconnect it again...........might be old batteries, I don't know. I have some new Eneloops I need to try.

UncleRed - Mine did exactly the same thing - seemed to require 'jiggling' as seating it in the camera. The micro-tiny spring-catch that's a "bit awkward" with the Li-Ion power-packs is so tight with the AA-holder it needs holding back as the holder is inserted. I use a ballpoint pen with the core removed to lever it back - don't like the idea of putting anything metal in there!

I used an old microfibre cloth I have for cleaning camera bodies to clean/polish the contacts in the holder. The AAs fit very snugly into the holder - I just rotate them slightly as they snick-in to ensure that they're contact-seated.

Hold the catch back as the holder is inserted, and release it just before the holder is fully in - then push down gently-firmly until the catch snicks. I'm hoping that the stiff catch will free-up a little with more use.

Age of Eneloops might not be a main factor - my 5 sets of 4 range from four to two years old (having been used in my Canon SX10 and Fuji HS10) - and now the contacts and insertion things have been tweaked a bit, seem to be working well.

Regards, Dave.

You might also want to try sanding the contacts on the battery a bit. It seems I need to do that every so often with rechargeables. (Yes, even including Eneloops. :-) Unlike single-use alkalines/lithiums, rechargeables are used for a much longer time span and tend to oxidise a little.

I use a 3M SandBlaster Sanding sponge (fine 320-grit). I just take the battery and rub both ends on it for a few swipes and then they work fine after that.

That is pretty aggressive IMO, I use a pencil eraser sparingly. Even that tends to cut through the protective layer after extended use and expose the easily corroded base metal.

Ehh.. Not really. It's actually quite a fine grit and I don't rub it that hard on there - just a few light swipes.. Plus it's old enough now that much of the grit has filled in with the dust anyways. It's not like the contacts are so thin that they can't withstand it. I imagine that by the time they would wear away, the battery will have been long, LONG dead.

Whatever works though to get that battery juice freely flowing again.

Lithium batteries work just fine. They're even recommended for cold weather.

I've swapped both the AA holder (Eneloops / PowerExes) and the Li battery between my K-r and K-30 on the fly with no problems.

My K-r and K-30 batteries appear to be the same - I have swapped them between bodies and charged them in the same charger. They are NOT the same battery as the K-5 or K-01.
