K-30 or K-5 over a 550D/T2i

Hi,

I have a 550D, and I would like to buy a Pentax after seeing its weather resistant magic, image quality, value for money, and ads vs quality tradeoff made me a Pentax sympathizer.

So I generally take night pictures, landscapes. I saw very conflicting reviews about IQ about K-5 vs K-30. Some people told me I should go for K-30 since I could use 550D for video.

now my options are
1) K-5 Silver special edition with 40 mm : 1110 USD
2) K-30 with 18-135 WR: 1000 USD
3) K-30 with 18-55 + 50-300: 900 USD

I would go with K-5 but I dont need another 40 mm lens. Suggestions please.

You could always purchase the K-5 silver kit with 40mm lens if you can't find the body only for sale, then sell the 40mm and use it to help fund another lens...

+1. The K-5 body offers more control, the shutter is less noisy and the top LCD is useful IMHO.

well selling 40 would not worth the effort I guess, since second hand goes really cheap. I was wondering if Silver has any advantage over regular?

Not unless you feel better shooting with a silver camera rather than a black one

I would go with the K-5. Better grip (the Silver has even better grip than the regular K-5), top LCD, super quiet shutter, great DR, possibility to get a battery grip, overall feels more "pro" like. I have 2 K-5 (one silver and one black), and one K-30. I use the K-30 for videos and the K-5 for stills.

I also have a Canon T2i, but I need to sell it in order to be able to afford the K-30.

I looked for eight months before buying after giving up my SLR more than 20 years ago. Soon as I got the K-30 in my hands it was marriage. Have you got your hands on it yet? :-)

The K-30 with the 18-135 wr gets my vote . I also have the 55-300 al so it covers a great range with the restrictions of a slower maximum aperture.
The quality of the high ISO resolution compensates for the lens limitations . The camera feels great and produces quality images with the benefit of water and dust seals ! Take it to the beach , mountains or on a boat and have a ball .
