New K30...Old lens???

So, I have a brand new K30, which is a replacement for my now 5 year old K(m)2000.
Both have the identical 18-55 "Made In Vietnam" lens.
Cool, I have a spare lens, just in case.
Here's the interesting thing though.....
The OLD K(m)2000 lens has s/n 6514614
The NEW K30 lens has s/n 5560889, a significantly earlier s/n than the seemingly "older" K(m)2000 lens.
What gives
?????????????????????????
Is Pentax sticking 5 year old lenses they had laying around on their brand new cameras?
It's not a problem, but seems somehow not quite right to me.

Regards
Bernd

Here is the database for the DAL 18-55 lens. The range of serial numbers is pretty broad.

Serial numbers have different meanings depending on who creates them, the first numbers could be a code, like Vivitar uses to indicate manufacturer. Without knowing Pentax's scheme for making up the numbers it is impossible to know what one means.

Well, the serial code might refer to the "new" DAL II lens of the K-30, while the K2000 probably has a DAL I

There is only one version of the DAL, all are the v.II optical formula.

The kit lens from my K-x I bought January of 2011 has a lower s/n then either of those (5117485). I'd chalk it up to some sort of quirk of internal coding or something. I know they haven't made over 5 million of these lenses, so there has to be a code of some sort involved with the beginning of the number.

EDIT: Looking at the database, the numbers seemed to generally drop from 6XXXX to 5XXXX sometime shortly after the K-x was released back in 2010.
