Help! Clipping in bright lighting conditions

Hi All,

Currently grappling with what is causing this blue clipping in the background on this shot:

Its a brightly lit room, in terms of colours, but low in terms of ambient light.

Anyone understand what the issue is? Don't remember this being a problem with my CCD sensor'd K10D - my K30 and K-01 both have CMOS sensors, perhaps thats the issue.

Due to burst speed, and speed of editing, I'd like to shoot in camera JPG, but could go RAW if I had to. Any ideas how I could adjust the settings on camera to reduce the effect?

I'll be adding my own lighting for some of the event, but I'm not so keen on doing that during the more freestyle parts for want of avoiding hacking people off (I may stand mount the flash and bounce off the ceiling)

Are LED lights being used?
