looking for a battery adapter to work on the K-30, would it use the same one as the K-r?

Yes - I move mine between the two all the time.

I recieved two no-name AA adapters from China last week, bought early this past December from Ebay. They were advertised to work for the K-R, with no mention of the K30 anywhere in the description. I took one of them in my K30 on a snowshoe trip this past couple of days. A set of AA Alkaline Duracell batteries lasted around 200 shots. Better batteries will probably last longer. People have reported high-end lithium batteries and rechargeables to last around 1000 shots.

I have two less-than-ten-dollar eBay knockoff clips, and both work just fine.

Regarding different types of batteries, I won't go into the different discharge properties, but Alkaline AAs just don't last long in digital cameras - I only use them in emergencies (but you can find them almost anywhere and finish out a day's shooting). Non-rechargeable Lithiums last the longest, but are pricey. Sony Eneloops are the best of the NiMH rechargeables I've used, followed by Powerex. I've also used Energizer and Rayovac rechargeables - the Rayovacs did not last long, and got demoted to my external flash. The thing that really seems to shorten battery life on the NiMHs is a charger that overheats them - the cheap ten-minute wall chargers will murder batteries in just a few cycles. I invested in a Maha Powerex charger, and not only did new batteries last longer, it even brought some old dead ones back to life.
