K30 Autofocus vs. K5

Anybody have any personal experience on how the autofocus differs between the K30 and K5, and which they think is better? And, I assume the K5II is a bump up from there.

Thanks

Generally, the K-30 has better CDAF but still slightly worse PDAF: Pentax K-30 Camera Review - Autofocus Tests - PentaxForums.com

I did see those tests. So, if it has lower scores on PDAF then I imagine the K5II must be head and shoulders above the K30 in PDAF.

I haven't noticed any K-30 AF accuracy problems in any lighting. The only 'issue' is slowdown in low light but that's to be expected.

I guess that the K30 didn't inherit any of the PDAF improvements that went into the K5II from what I am hearing.

I must say that I expected more AF speed from K30 in low light. Yes, the tungsten problem is gone, but this is not a bonus, it is the way it should always be. Comparing my old K10 and K30 in low light AF speed, yes, K30 is faster, but the improvement is not huge. I expected more. I remember the days when I owned canon 40d, and AF was much faster than it is today on K30.

So, it sounds to me that the real improvements in PDAF are with the K5II and not the offerings that preceded it only months earlier.

The strange thing is though if you put the K-30 into release priority mode and get used to the AF behaviour in low light, listening to the lens movement, you can press the shutter at the right moment to get fast AF, at least on a fast focus throw lens like the 35/2.4, and the subject is in focus most of the time and close/good enough the rest.
