AF.A

Hi,

Anyone can explain how AF.A supposed to work? I tried all three modes, and worked great, the expanded area was working great. But Extended area AF is supposed to work in AF.A mode, and even when my kids where moving around, it remained in AF.S mode, and didn't follow the kids, but in AF.C it was doing its job perfectly...

I read it, and not a word of AF.A. AF.A supposed to decide if I need AF.S or AF.C, but apparently in AF.A it stays in AF.S

You have to half hold the shutter or hold the AF button. But it is possible that the camera simply judges that AF.S was the right one to choose when you would have preferred AF.C.
Honestly, I think the AF.A is more of the "automated" or "beginner" mode, so don't feel bad if you prefer to choose the AF type yourself.

As Na Horuk said, you have to press the shutter halfway to achieve lock first, then expanded area will take over and continuous focus as your subject moves.

Unfortunately that didn't happen, but I stay with manual selection. It's quite predictable...

Sorry to ask, but youre not using live view, right? Because live view has different AF rules/settings

No, I don't use Live view unless I should lay down the ground...

I tried to get AF.A to work sensibly and gave up as it never went continuous AF when I wanted it to (not sure it ever did). I suppose it would be nice to be able to leave my K-30 in this mode all the time if it did what it's supposed to but I won't be using it again and there's no real need for it, for my needs anyway.

It seems like a good idea to have AF-A on a camera where AF options are buried in the menu, but I find it's too slow to kick in when it's needed. Also, it doesn't work with quick-shift. I was trying to manually override focus, and the camera was fighting me. Very annoying.

I use AF-S most of the time, sometimes AF-C. I don't use AF-A.
