Battery

Have to agree there - Mine goes from Full to Empty instantly
It was fine when I got out of the car and took this photo This is as far as the car goes | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Having climbed through soft sand to the tombs - Several rest stops and lots of water were required - I went to take the first photo and the battery was flat!
Fortunately my guide ran back down to the car and came back with two types of incorrect batteries, but brought the 6 year old, twice round the block *ist as well!

One thing I dislike on my K-30 after the FW update is that the battery meter is not that accurate, I use black Eneloops instead of the lithium btw.
Do you go into the menu and change the AA battery type from 'Auto' to specifically indicate the type in use? 'NiMH' when using eneloops. It helps, but is far from perfect.

problems focusing

Hi, have you experienced any problems when you focus after installing the latest firmware update? I was just comparing my first pictures with the new ones and the first ones were very crisp... I am using the same lens and speed...

I did. I've seen an improvement after downgrading to 1.01 (I would do 1.0 but that's not avail anywhere I've looked). As weird as it may sound the quality of the JPEGs is a bit better too (at least what I've noticed). I have not ran lab tests, this is just my opinion.

The latest one is V.1.05
You can check upgrade information from Ricoh website.

And reading this thread, and looking at what the firmware updates address (I don't use Live View, for a start), I think I might just as well stay with 1.0 which is working just fine and dandy.

firmware

Mine is also on ver. 1.0, and i`m just wondering if they addressed known issues or just introduced new ones. I`m new to Pentax system so i don`t know if it`s wise to update firmware or how it usually works with Pentax updates.

Personally,, i am reminded of that old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it".
Ricoh has acknowledged on their website that firmware 1.03 caused instability. I would say, if you don't have a need that is directly related to the issues the new firmware addresses,, then don't mess with it.
I'm at firmware 1.01 and have not noticed a need to upgrade it yet.

Hi,

I have Version 1.0 on the old firmware, have followed the steps on the Update page for V1.05 and cannot even get the camera to upgrade at all. I have formatted the SD card using the camera and have the DCIM folder. Downloaded the update file no unzipping required according the instructions. The firmware info/options just stays at the version screen and does not give me the opportunity to upgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
